nors were challenged.

a poll opened at ten o’clock by Geo.

voting briskly for an hour , or two.

graph office.
Many negroes refused to vote, and
many others who retired with Griffin
to debate the situation and organize,
returned two late as the precinct clos
ed at three o’clock.
At Hnynesville, Henderson, Hous
ton Factory, Powersville, and Busby-
ville, very few negroes voted, or were
present, they having gone to Perry or
other places.
At York a good many were voted
but lute iu the evening, the returns
wore stolen it is supposed by some
negreos, from the desk at the store.
So the York figures are not official,

Negroes Beaten.
From the election returns it will
be seen that both the negro candidates
for legislative honors were badly beat
