the arc well and favorably known, experienced and liberal Li-chanls. Livery Stalilc The public generally will be gratified to learn that Mr. T. J. Livingston has purchased the Livery Stable property ol Mr. James G. Young, and supplied it with a fine lot of splendid horses and ve hicles, which he will hire to the public at very reasonable rates. lie will like wise keep on hand horses and mules for sale. See. advertisement. To fiud so substantial a citizen as Mr. Livingston purchasing property and lo cating among us, is one of the best indi cations of the permanent prosperity of our town. \Ye have known him for many years, and ever found him upright, con scientious and honorable in all transac tions; he is likewise a man of energy and perseverance, and we are extremely gratified to greet him as a citizen of Quit man. New Firm. By reference to our advertising col umns, it will be perceived that the firm of J. R. Smith & Cos. has been disolved, and that of Smiths & Walk mi takes its place. The gentlemen composing this firm are reliable and honorable, and it will l«c seen that the senior partier is Rev. George G. Smith, a gentleman well known and universally lespected and esteemed by our citizens. They propose doing business at Qu tman and Ousley’s with lieadqarters at Baltimore, Md., at which point they design conducting a general commission business, for the purchase of planters supplies, &c. At Quitman and Ousley’s they will always keep supplied with a general stock of dry goods, hats, shoes, clothing, bacon, lard, corn, etc. We recommend the firm to the favor able consideration of the readers of the Banner, and hope they will extend to it* generous patronage. Keep Cool! There is a fair prospect that the ap proaching Summer will be an extremely ■warn* one, and of course our readers will be pleased to lie informed that Messrs. Haywood, Gngk & Cos., of Savannah, will always keep on hand a heavy supply of ice, which can be procured at a trifling coat, per railroad. See advertisement. Kinsteln A Ki kmn«l. These gentlemen are old patrons of the Banner, and consequently our readers are well acquainted with their place of business, oil Congress street, Savannah. They are still in the dry goods trade, and have on hand a large and complete stock Foreign and Domestic manufacture, Jiiich will be disposed of on the most Tmsonable terms. They are clever mer chants, and will deal fair and honorable with customeri. See their advertisement in to-day’s paper. Lincoln’s Drugstore. The large Drug Houses of Savannah avail themselves of the extensive circu lation of the Banner, to solicit the trade of the people of Southern and Middle Florida. The Houses of Messrs. A. A. Solomons & Cos, ami Dr. W. M. Walsh, are well known to our readers, and we are of opinion the gentlemanly and lilieral proprietors have no occasion to regret their investment in the Banner. To-day we are previleged to introduce bur readers to the Drug House of W. W. Lincoln, situated at the corner t f Bull and Broughton streets, where may al ways be found an extensive stock of drugs, medicines, chemicals, perfumery, toilet articles, paints, etc., which will be sold on the most favorable terms. J3ee advertisement in another column. Tl»e Florida Presbytery. This Ecclesiastic body assembled in the Presbyterian chttrifc, at Quitman, on Wednesday evening, the 10th inst., and concluded its deliberations on Monday last. The Rev, Mr. Alexander, the worthy afid Eealutftf minister at this place, informs us that it Was the largest meet ing of the Presbytery ever held, arid that the deliberations were important and very harmonious, The following resolution was adopted: Resolved, That the Presbytery very high ly commends the zeal, energy and sell-de nial of the Church of Quitman, and their Pastor, in erecting their neat and eon v'cuijtit bouse of worship in eircumstan prevailed on the as the instructor of their children. He is a good and honest man, highly edu cated, and a fervent minister of the Meth odist church. We hope he will be liber .ally rewarded for the very disagreeable,, but necessary, labor he has voluntarily accepted. The Quitman Academy—A Sug gest ion This building is now almost ready for occupation. The contractors have about completed their work, and will soon be ready to deliver the keys to the Trustees; therefore, owing to a deficiency of money to meet the expense of building, it is necessary that the stockholders, and others interested in the cause of educa tion and improvement, should have a meeting and devise some plan, not only to make up the] deficiency, but for tire future control ol the building. Many citizens, who generously- sub scribed of their means for the erection of the building, have become indifferent upon the subject, owing to the fact that there appears to ! c no organized system hy which the property is to be controlled, arid therefore conclude that the amounts contributed were so much given away. They must be convinced that this is a mistake. We contend that it is an in vestment similar to any other stock en terprise; and by pursuing a judicious policy, it can be made valuable—in fact, worth a premium. With this result in view, wo make the following suggestion: Let the subscrib ers have a meeting—elect a Board of Di rectory, with a President, Secretaiy and Treasurer—who shall he authorized to issue stock scrip for each share subscrib ed, as well as an additional amount to complete the payment of the present con tract. These stockholders will be the owners of the building, and the invest ment can be made to yield a handsome revenue, by a lease of the same to the teachers who design occupying it. The sum thus realized should he appropriated to the improvement of the building and lot. The result will be, in a few years we will not only have a magnificent Academy building, but the snyounding gr. umls will be a delightful resort for our citizens. After all necessary improvements are completed, the revenue derived from rent can be divided among the stock holders, as dividends, or devoted to char itable purposes. The amount of rent to be charged for the building should be reasonable—to be regulated by the number of pupils and amount charged for tuition. We can con ceive of no more impropriety in cliarg ing teachers for the building wherein they ply their profession, than to charge ph.-sicians or lawyers rental for their offices. The principle is the same. By pursuing tiiis course, the deficiency for the payment of the contractors, (who have faithfully performed their work) can be very readily realized, and the Academy thrown open at an early day for the reception of pupils. Otherwise, we do not believe the people will consent to make further subscriptions, and the contractors will be forced to retain the building, and, perhaps, put it to otl.er use than originally designed. We therefore suggest to Mr. Hilliard, the present efficient President of the Board of Trustees, that lie immediately call a meeting of the stockholders, to take into consideration ihe foregoing suggestions. Lost Watch.- —Rev. J. VV. Montgomery has lost a valuable watch and chain, as j will be seen by advertisement. VEGETABLE PAIN KILLER Possesses virtue, which not alone removes pain instantly, but regulates the stomache, gives strength, tone and vigor to the system. It is one of the medicines that is worth more than gold. Don't experiment in testing new remedies, when you can buy the genuine rain Killer which everybody knows to be good. The W oodstock (C. W.) Sentinel says : “It is a generally admitted fact that the medicine man ufactured by Messrs. Perry Davis A Son lias been instrumental in alleviating much pain, and giv ing relief to millions of suffering humanity. The medical faculty almost everywhere recommended the Pain Killer and its reputation is now estab liehed as the most beneficial family medicine now in use, and may be taken internally aud external ly to expel pain.” A !irw and 6rand Epoch In Medicine ! Du. Maguikl is the founder of a new Medical System ! The quantitarians, whose vast internal doses enfeeble the stomach and paralyze the bow els, must give precedence to the man who res tores health and appetite with from one to two of his ext raordinary Pills, and cures the most virulent sores with a box or so of his wonderful and all healing KalVe. These two great specifics of the Doctor are fast superseding all the stereo typed nostrums of the day Extraordinary cures by MaggiePs Pills and Salve have opened the eyes of The public to the inefficiency of the (so called ) remedies of others and upon which people have so blindly depended. MaggiePs Pills are not of the class that are swallowed by the dozen and of which every box full taken creates an ab solute necessity for another. One or two of Mag gie's Pills suffices to place the bowclls in perfect order, tone the stomache create, an appetite and render the spirits light and buoyant! There is no griping, and no reaction in the form of con stipation. If the liver Is affected, its functions are restored ; and if the nervous system is fee ble, it is invigorated. This last quality makes the medicines very desirable for the wants of delicate females. Ulcerous and eruptive diseas es are literally extinguished by the disenfectant power of MaggiePs Salve. In fact it is here an nounced, that Haggle!** Bilious, Dyspeptic and Diarrhoea Pills cure where all others fail. A'hiie for Burns, Scalds, Chilblains, Cuts and all abrai sons of the skiu Magglel’s Halve is Infalliable. Sold by J. Maggikl II Pine Street, New York, and all Druggists, at 25 cts. per box. COUNTERFEIT'S! COUNTERFEITS I —All readers of this paper are warned not to purchase MAOGIKL’S PILLS or SALVE, unless the name of J. Haydook, Proprietor, in addition to the name of Dr. J. Maguikl, is on the engraved slip surrounding each box or pot. Aug. 31, 1866. ECONOMY! DISEASED teeth is the cause of severe pain. and also ill-health, a fact which all will readily admit, and to relieve wbldh much money is expended and time lost. Now, my friends, if you wish to permanently remove the cause of your suffering, call immediately at my office and have your diseased teeth removed Without Pain to You! and without the use of Chloriform. I have just procured one of Dr. Richardson’s Spray appaia- Uis. by means of which no pain is felt in the ex trication of teeth. Therefore, I can safely an nounce to you, that if your teeth cannot be sav ed by a Dental operation, then I can certainly remove them withou* pain. Money expended for Pills.
