C tjjrrr Court. —The adjourned term of
'-'ne County Court for Brooks county, com
menced on Monday last, and it is proba
ble will its labors on this
(Thursday) .veiling. Judge oaiuc «
Hunter, presiding.
A Mistake.—We are informed by Mr.
Wattles, that we labored under an error
last week, in stating that the kitchen ad
joining the jail caught fire from the stove
pipe. Mr. W. says ho has every reason
to believe that the fire was the work of
an incendiary. If such is the ease, our
people should he on their guard—watch
closely all suspicious parties, and if
caught on yo< r premises at night, furn
ish them with a dose of “blue pills.”
Removal.
* The numerous customers of Messrs.
Smith & Walker, will take noiice that
they have removed from their old quar
ters, and may now be found in the store
recently occupied by Mr. M. S. Mclntosh,
adjoining Dr. McCall’s Drug store: where j
they will be pleased to Bee and deal gen-j
cron sly with their old customers and the
public generally.
Fall anti Winter Goods.
It will be seen elsewhere, that Mr. ,T.
B. Finch is the first, among the merchants
of Quitman, to receive 1 is Fall and Win
ter supplies. Ilis stock is complete in
every particular, and doubtless will give
satisfaction to his numrrous customers—
especially to the ladies, for whose benefit
be has a very choice assortniet of dress
goods. Mr. Finch and his very accom
modating and clever assistant, Mr. W.
E. Barnes, are correct and honorable
gentlemen—they will deal fairly and just
with customers, and take pleasure in ex
hibiting go. ds. Give them a call.
Valuable Properly for Sale
We are enabled, in to-day’s Banner, to
offer to parties desirous of investing sur
plus capital, one of the very best oppor
tunities ever presented. We refer to the
dwelling house and store at present oc
cupied by Mr. Frank Hooker, and also
the large and magnificent new brick
store occupied by Messrs. J. VV. Stalna
ker & Cos. It is the most valuable and
desirable property in the town of Quit- j
man, and yields a handsome per centage
for the capital invested.
The property will be sold at a great
advantage to the purchaser, if speedy ap
plication is made to the Editor of the
Banner. Sve advertisement.
ITino MmoWinjßT Tobacco.
We have been favored with a jample j
of “Ltitakia" smoking tobacco, raised the i
present year by the Rev. J. S. Baker,!
two miles from Quitman. It is a very j
tine article of tobacco, and when sufTt i
ciently cured, will possess a delightul
flavor. It is a distinct species of tobac
co, introduced recent'y by Bayard Tay
lor, from Palestine. A writer in a St.
Louis paper, says of it: "It grows and
comes to perfection in a little more than
half the time required for other sorts. My |
seeds were planted about the last of
June, were an inch high in two w.teks,
transplanted in August, and yet ripened
their seeds perfectly. Every lover of the
weed who has had a puff or a snuff of
the smoke, commends it highly ”
Dr. Baker planted very lightly of this
tobacco the present year, as an experi
ment ; bttt We presume lias saved sufH
fcient seed to supply parties who Would
be pleased to plant it next year
The Result of Advertising
As illustrative of the value of the
columns of the Banner, as an adveitising
nfedium, we will statb, that a business
house in SaVarmah, during the past year
has realized sixteen thousand dollars worth
of new business, induced by an adver
tisement in the Banner, for which about
one hundred dollars was paid. Printer’s
ink is the best investment of the age, and
they who fail to realize and profit rom
the fact, are certainly blind to their own
interest
