A Briile in Hie Wrong Bed IVe have the Cine nnati Enquirer as voucher for the following ; A newly man ied pair put up at the Spencer House—they went out shopping —returned—bride had left some things —she slipped out —found her lost articles —returned—mistook Main street for Rroudway—got into the Madison for the Spencer ->t looked a litt e strange ; ask ed boy if she was in the Spencer ; boy said yes not fully understanding her ; she told him to lead her to 48; she partly disrobed and got into bed; expected has build momentarily ; fell sleep ; the oc eupant of 48 Madison ; an ludianna merchant returned from tin the itre ; a little light ; quietly went to the room ; to bed ; to sleep. The account pro ceeds. How long the two reposed there side hy side with only a foot space I el ween them unconscious of each other’s pres ence, is not exactly known, but probably about dti hour wlieit a tremendous noise was heard in the apartment from which female screams Issued wildly piercingly and ceaselessly. The hotel was in an uproar proprietors clerks, waters, porters and guests, dres cd, were at the door of 44 in a few min utes blocking up tbe entrance and ask ing each other eagerly : “What is the matter ? for God’s sake tell us what is the trouble !’’ The cause of this outcry may ho imag ined. The bride had awakened about midnight, and putting her arm over her husband it tell upon the ludiauiuii’s face, and the soft M alm touch aroilsed him at once. Ho did not dislike it and in a mo ment Mrs. R. said : 'My dearest Ims hand, where have you been all this while? “Husband !'’ echoed the merchant, be ginning to see like Lord Tinsel, that he had made a small mistake here ; “I’m nobody's husband ; I reckon my.dear manual, you are in the wrong bed.” In Ihe bed. linn-ore. -d horrors thou ;ht the young bride. What woa'd her lord ; what would the curious world say ? And Mrs it. screamed terribly and sprang from the couch just as her com panion done the same. Ho was fully as much alarmed as she, and ontreuted hel lo give him time and he would leave the apartment, although it was the one ho had engaged; he’d make oath to that. Scream, scream, scream, was her only rep'y t his kindly proposition. “My God, madam, don’t yell so! A’nu wi I wake the house Be reasonable ; 1 swear ids only a mistake. Have some thought of the consequence. 1 and n’t wan’t to hurt you, I swear I don’t. You will get mo shot and yourself—” Just at this juncture, the crowd out side presented itself at the door and be held Mrs R., cowering in one corner ex ercising her lungs magnificently with a sheet wrapt over her form and head and the Indianian in the middle of the room enveloped in a coverlet, and ejaculating * My God, Madam don’t !” The Jnnioi proprietor, Dr. Cabbill saw there must he some mistake, and. reques ting the others to retire called tile mcr chant, w nt out into another room and there learned the whole story. The Doc tor then sent one of the ladies to Mrs. R. and the entire affair was explained greatly to her relief, though she was overwhel tied with confusion at a cireum stance that migfrfjhavc ruined her repu tation forever Under the escort of the doctor, she was conveyed to tho “Spencer,” where the fiuiband was found pacing the corridors with frantic mein and half crazed with grief, at the. mysterious disappearance o his wife, whom he believed had been spirited away hy a villian, or murdered lor her jewels in this “infernal city,” w ere as he expressed himself they would kill a man for a dollar. As soon as he beheld his spouse ho oanirlit her to his bosom and wept like a child. He was melted with happiness at, her discovery and told her ttnft tUs h»5 searched the city for intelligence of her whereabouts. The dispatch adds: ‘ The opinion is expressed that, allow ing Davis will appear, the trial will be shirked by the Government, and the prisoner will again he set at liberty on bail. There is reason, however, to con tradict such an erroneous impr ssioii Indications lead to tho belief that the trial will be preceded with, aud a mass of the most important events connected with the history of the rebellion disclos ed. The counsel for defence will demand a trial, and il the Government urges as an excuse not ready, the Court will ex press its determination to remain in ses sion a sufficient time to prepare; failing in this, a nolle prosequi will then I e en tered, by which tbe discharge of the pris oner may bo effected. The latter is not likely, and the trial, which the nation at largo demands, will he preceded with Davis can scarcely he convicted, With Chase on the bench and Davis in the prisoner’s box, and the l ight of secession in question, h drama of great national interest will be presented, in which the principal actors will have to study well their parts. Advantages of Advertising. —Tho ad vantages of advertising have just to ccived a curious and amusing illustra tion in Boston. A wealthy gentleman of that city, who owns a country residence in the suburbs, becoming dissatisfied with it, defermiifbd to have another, and instructed aii auctioneer famous for his descriptive powers, to advertise in the papers at private sale, but to conceal the location, telling purchasers to apply at his office. In a few days the gentle man happened tinon the advertisement, j was pleased with the account, of the place, showed it to his wife, and the two ■ concluded that it was just what they wanted and tb-.vi. ihey would secure il at onoo. So fie went to the office of the auctioneer aud told him that the place lie advertised was such a place us he de sired, and he would purchase it. The j auctioneer hurst into a laugh, and told him that was the description of his own house where lie was then living. He read over tho advertisement, pondered over “the grassy slopes,” “heaulilul vistas,” “smooth lawns,” etc, and broke out—“is it possible! Well, auctioneer, | make out my bill for advertising and ex penses, by George! i wouldn’t sell my place now for three times what it cost me!” Gen. Breckinridge's Last OtnciA'xoy 't Major T. U.
