Tin- OjeeeJjeel Rebellion.
We publish on our iii.st page, details ■
of tilt! outrage* Committed in one day by
the lilaclc luutrs in the neighborhood of
Savannah. The day Mowing warrants
wore issued for the arrest of iv number of
the outlaws, and platted in the hands ol
of the Sheriff of Chatham county. With
a small jwsvt that official repaired to the ,
plantations and * succeeded in "raking
several arrests, and marched the! priso
ners to station N0.,1 dn the Ooli Road,
for the purpose ol taking „the train atj
that point and carrying them to Savan*
nah. lime tho Sheriff was met by j. j
f/SriThf sever at hundred negroes, well j
armed, who not only released the prrso !
llC rs, hut robbed the officers of tiro law j
of all property on their persons; and also j
informed them that no legal process
should ho served iu their (tho negroes )
nurghhorhood— that they had a govern
ment of their own, and were determiner
to protect themselves. On the next, day
(the Ist limt.) tho sheriff summoned a
larger posse, and again repaired to No. 1
with warrants for the arrest of one hun
dred and fifty of tho Insurrectionary ne
groes but he found the om.-my intrenched
ami in too largo force to make an attack
upon them. lie therefore returned to
the city, orni called a meeting of tho
citizens for conKnUutinn.
Tin; iußiimotion.'ivy orgJVOkation, vvd
n'i-e ffifi'irrijed by tho itcpMuan, numbers
from eight inimhed to a thousand—per

ly armed and provided with ammunition
They have officers of every grade, and

At this writing the negroes ore con
stantJy receiving recruits from neighbor
jug counties, arid forcing into their ser
vice those who uro disposed to behave
themselves They openly declare that
their purpose is warfare, and havo bold
ly cast down.the gauntlet to the whites.
Wo know not what preparations are
making in Savannah for the suppression
of this outbreak; hut indications are that
the people of that oily are disposal to
avoid bloodshed, and will exhaust all
peaceful moons for tho restoration of or
der. This may- l>o tho truo policy but
at this distance from tho scene of the
troubles, it is generally believed that a
permanent peace, respect for law nnd
good order, will be secured only by the
bhpdding of blood.
Perhaps our Savannah friends aro
afraid of the effect which any action of
thoir’s will have upon reconstruction.
Perhaps they think that ignorant, bru
talized negroes can he controlled by nior
al suasion! M 0-r-ri-l S-u-n-s i-o u ! ! 1—
Whistle off a pack of fierce hungry
hounds raging in full view of their quar

maniac who stands with deadly weapon
poised above your head ; loro off the
(tender, as with urucl beak he rends his

Andes; do this, and all these things and
thou talk of controlling negroes by mor
al suasion !
'-Who would fie free !
Themselves must strikatlie blow. .
If» few hundred negroes are to control
the great city of Savannah; if tho citi
zens fear tho consequences, let them
send their Sheriff with proper authority,
for a fiotue of “Wire Grass Boys,” and*
then we ll do tho rest 1
I. Since penning tho nbove, wo
sec by the Savannah News of the 4th,
that four companies of United States
troops have been ordered to the Ogee -
choc.
They have not been ordered a moment
too soon. Grave, oven deadly conse
quences t» tho whole negro race of the
South, might have grown out of this re
hellion; tho torch of civil war if once ligh
ted who is to quench it. bet St. Domin

Arkausfis Outrages.
The put rag s committed by- the nc.ro |
and Radical piilitiv of Irkatisas, are
sickening in the extreme, and call loud. y
for vengeance upon the head* of the in- :
human funds. Whole communities are ,
broken up business of every character
suspended, and every conceivable out
rage committed on dofene. Vss wetr.cn.
In otic case six brutal negroes tied the

Man is u political tmker. liver t-inci
Locke wrote his f.tiuomi Constitution for ■
the Carolina*, in which philosophical
profundity contended with political ig- 1
norane’e, we have had great abundance [
of political tinkers.
Unlike the Great Tinker, John Bun
| yan, they do not even deal in allegories,
l but keep hammering away at Constitu
lions, laws, and reconstruction, as if
their political salvation depended upon ;
(lie noise, funs, and hollow reverberations :
of their old political kettles—only a lit
tle less hollow and brassy than their
own empty heads.
Sancho I’anza, Vhen he had governed J
tho island of Barrataria for a few flays,
! laid down tho ensigns of government
J without a sigh, only too happy to es
cape from a charge in which he hud dis
played singular wisdom and moderation,
and in which ho hud been almost starv
ed to death !
Our legislators, unlike the immortal
j Sancbo, are not starved; no, not they ;
I they are clothed in purple and fine linen,
“like tho Itllios of tho field, they toil not
neither do they spin,” but they swagger
1 around in hundred dollar overcoats, and
drink unlimited quantities of forty rod :
rifle whisky, and Jersey Champagne.
To the thoughtful student of flintory,
these men arc surely and swiftly follow- ,
ing in the footsteps of tho leaders of the
French Revolution.
While the Guillotine was streaming,!
day after day, with the best blond
of (Franco; while want arid misery j
and gaunt despair | talked like avenging j
deities through the length and breadth j
ol the land ; while Iho very foundations
of ad society were overturned ; and vice
was crowned with flowers; and virtue
clothed in rags, these leaders of the
French Revolution were steeped to the
lips in the most shameless debauchery,
and daily consorted, openly and boldly,
with robbers, harfots'and thieves.
Shame on such men ! They arc a li~ j
bel on tlib good and true men, North !
•and South. With the low cunning of;
Galoban, with his boundless sensuality,
they unite tho unbridled ferocity of Rob- i
espiore, Dan ton and Nero.
Greed, cunning, lust, hate, avarice,
and all the avenging furies of the Heath
on mythology, arc let loose upon our de
voted land. 0 for a Jackson ! 0 'for
one pure stern earnest man of the better
days of tho Republic 1 0 for a Crom
well, who, with hand encased in steel,
would seize these monsters in human
shape, and band them ovci to fhc ten
der mercies of tho laws which they have
so long wilfully outraged, and which,
like an avenging Nemesis, though pale
claitdo, will orio day surely overtake
them !
If wo have written strongly, wo h’.ive
felt strongly. No words, no mere words,
were they written in letters of living fire j
could ever convey the utter loathing, con
tempt and abhorence which wo feel for j
modern legislators.
Latest from t!ie Ogecchce.
Thu insurrectionary negroes on the
Ogeecheo plantations, it appears, are
disposed to succumb to the authorities,
since the arrival of the military. On the
4th inat., fourteen of them surrendered!
to tho military at the U. S. Barracks in
Savannah, They were turned over to
tliceivil authorities, and confined in tho
Chatham county jail, under the follow
ing charges against each: 1. Robbery ol
J. F. Tucker ; 2 Robbery of J. \f. Mid
ijeton ; 3. Robbery of Emann if Mendel,
Deputy Sheriff; 5. Assault with intent
to murder the watchman on the South
field and Prairie plantations; (I, Assault
with intent to murder Richard Winn; 7
Assault with intent to murder Redding
Baxley; 8. Rescue of prisoners and res
isting the Sheriff while in the discharge
of his official duty; 9, Combined insuiv
rection and rebellion against the lawful
authorities of tho State of Georgia.
The total number of warrants thus far
issued amounts to thirteen hundred arid
fifty. The military will see that they are
all served. The war on tho Ogcocln e .
?a now doubtless at an end ; blit-, lmw
long will it bo before another outbreak
'occurs ? ‘ Permanent peace and order,
we are of opinion, can only bo secured
by blood letting.

I fact, we do know men, whom we have,
I at times, deemed soulless; but never
yet have wo found a woman, no matter
| what her position or station in life, who
did not, at times, give evidence of God
like virtue, truth and charity. She bless-,
