Capt. S. \V. Brooks, Assigneee of the
Estate of J. B. Holst, it will be perceiv
ed by advertisement, will sell at public
outcry ou the Ist Tuesday in April a
large amount of notes and accounts be
longing to said bankrupt. A list of the
same can be found posted at the Court
house. We urc requested to say that if
parties desire to settl: previous to the
day of sale, they cau have an opportu

J. B. Finch’s Stork. —The reader’s at
tention is directed to the advertisement
•t Mr. J.,3. Finch in today's Banner
He baa received a very neat and com
plete aupply of Spring and Summer
bloods, and is ofleriug the same on re
markably reasonable terms.
Mr. Finch is a very popular merchant
—on account of his accommodating,
courteous disposition and agreeable man
nera. To unacquainted with him
(and they are few) we would say: pay
hia stole a visit, examine bis goods, and
you will depart satisfied you have had
intercourse with a high-toned gentleman.
The Agricultural Society

Agreed that a second meeting should he
held on Saturday, the 21 tli, f 16-morrow.)
Os. course every enrolled member will
'l>e present; hoc! it is Imped that tho eiti
ins generally wjll attend, to swell itt
organization and give encouragement to
those who have been the zealous chain-,
pious of so important a movement for ,
months. Some of our most successful
planters and best citizens are members,
and consequently it vast amount of prof
itable instruction may he derived by at- ,
tending the meetings of the Society.—
We hope there will he a rousing meet
ing on to morrow.
lathis connection we will remark:—
We are extremely solicitous for the sue
cess of the Society, for we believe it will
result in vast advantage to tho county,
and therefore we tender the columns of
the Banner, for the publication of its-pro
Vd.uu.gs, notices, Ac., gratuitously.
Toon* Africa —Who owns the vast
number of “crfllud pussons” that
we see daily on our streets? Saucy,
dirty, nnd of most decided propensities ;
towards picking up things that they find
lying “around loose,” we think that their j
moral perceptions would he improved
and heightened by a judicious appliea- j
tine by their fond “patient*." of a little
hickory oil. Verb sap.
Goo*for Corn. —After an unusual dry ,
spefl for March, old Jupiter Pluvius gave
us a Urge instalment of rain ou last Fri
.day night.
As the formers arc about tbroDgh
planting couq, this rain will bring up the
■♦staff ot life,'"and wc hope, give a large
corn esop to our-eection. *
In caaDeetiea with this, let onr plant
ing friends take care to plant any and
ereiytliiog that will make food for man
or b*ast; make plenty at home, be inde
pendent of the rise and fall of cotton;
Itt the cotton that you make be a stir

care, and be the happiest, jullicst set in
the world 1
Ditching Needed-
Wc call the attention of the “City 'Fa
thers” more commonly known as the
Town Council—to the shameful condi
ti#n of the several ditches which drain
our Jtown.
The bridges, 100, need repairing sore
ly. We know the present Council has
been in office but a short time, and, as
yst, ha* aot bad. time to do all things
(UM are needed; but they were elected
because it was known that they were
energetic, thorough going young men.
Gentlemen, do your duty fearlessly,
! and, if at the end of your term, you do
| not receive the plaudits of your fellow
| citizens, you can retire with the pleasing
| consciousness that you have well deserv
| ed them.
Our Young Men.
The young men of this town, the clerks,
j the mechanics, and others not particu
j larly engaged in any business have many
spare hours which they could devote to
self improvement.
We need not dwell upon the many il
lustrious names that adorn the rolls of
! history; names that the world will not
willingly let die. Self made men these,
with no help but theirown strong hearts;
and no incentive hut a desire to improve
j their immortal minds. Young men, fit
| yourselves for the active duties of life
by hard study,
“beam to labor and to wait,"
ajid when the proper time comes you will
he found to be the right man in the right
j
But, frftter away your time in idle
chat and in rcadiug “ya'der kivered’’!
novels, nine times in ten, poisonous, low, j
lewd t. ash, bad; when you art ive at Years
of manhood, when a good knowledge <f!
Arithmetic, even, would secure yon a 1
good situation; do this and these things j
wo say, and you" will be looked upon j,
with contempt for having thrown away.,
your golden opportunities and now will
weep unavail ng tears of regret that you
did not sow in tho spring time of youth,
that you might reap in tho summer of
manhood.
