Woman Suffraice.
Fiilillc t.uliili l ! wlmt’a the use?
You can’t make hot- a man;
The great Creator fashioned her
(In quite another |dan.
Man's joints are strong mid (Irmly Unit,
llis thews and sinews tough:
But woman is of dander mold:
And formed of liner stall'.
Men are the prose—the timber half
Os fins sad world of ours,
And women are the poetry,
The sweet fern and the flowers.
Throughout the belessed Book this thought
Runs beautiful and clear.
That woman lives to sanctify,
Tograce ami to endear.
Don’t let her, then, be smutched and soiled
By min ling in the fray.
But keep her free from grosser acts
To will her own sweet way:
Let purity remain her shield,
Without a blot of stain,
To guard her menial bloom Irom tatnt,
Or touch of hand prolan".
Forbid it. TTeavcn! Forbid it, Fate!
Forbid it, men of sense,
That she herself should aid the plot
To shame her own defense,
She is all glorious as she is—
Why should the fretting few
Conspire to banish from her soul
The fragrance and the dew?
Why lake away her chiefest charm—
The crown that’s hers by right
The quiet influence that compels
Protui man to own her rigid?
She knows her power —why can’t the sex
Remain contentful then,
To rule us in the good old way?
Lord love us all. Amen!
A TnIIHJTK TO TIIE SOUTH.
ITor&cs Greeley, in lhe New York Tri
bum; thus speaks of the South:
‘■The South has two noble characteris
ties which left to their natural working;
in society, are enough in themselves to
lift eomniiHiitios from any depth of (lisas
ter ami set them on the highway of re
nown. She lias a bravo way of looking
fact > full in the face admitting the truth,
eompreliondme the extent of a disaster
ns a preliminary to fresh enterprises.—
Tl.is she honestly came by through the
blond of the men who two hundred years
ago l, lied the original oaks and pines
on the hanks of ihe Potomac, the James
the Roanoke, and the Savannah. Second
the crowning occupation to which every
g .oil Southerner aspires, tin; ti iblest
purest, most honest and permanent voca
lion Ii man in his opinion that of a til
ler of Hie soil. Give these as premises
in any society and no disasters can prove
irretrievable.”
The (’oils! ilnlion in view of lhe prob
able upturning of matters in Georgia
and Hi. consequent certainty that a day
of retribution will surely come, gives
the following wise counsel:
Pi'nling ties day of retribution, we
eouii -el on-people to avoid all deeds of
violence and richer seek to liiw.irt their
i nemies by acts of wi. ilom manifestation
of superior 'nanngooient, and ah >vo all,
by a bond of union among tli inseives,
winch may, as the emergency dictates,
lie o i lustic or as firm as highly tem
pered sleet. Let them hy all means,
discouraging as the prospect may up
pear, Continue to cultivate those habits
of industry which have made Ge agin a
Wonder to the world. We would insist
likewise that they be kind and forbear
