Pain Killer a Cure f»r Diphtheria !
All interested, please read the following ex
tract from a letter from Mrs. Ellen B. Mason,
w ife of Rev. Francis Mason. Tonagtroo, Birniah:
My son was taken violently sick w ith diphthe
ria. cold chills, burning fever and sore throat.
I counted one morning ten little vesicles iu his
j throat very white, and his tongue towards the
root, just like a wuterrnellon, full of seeds; the
remainder coated as thick as a knife blade. So
many ouiidren have died around here, 1 was 3-
| (raid to call a physician, and tho iglit I would
try your Pain Killer for a gargle, with small
doses inwardly, I dill so. and found tbe gargle
invariably cut off the vesicles, and hb raised
them up. often covered with blood. He was
taken on Sunday: on Wednesday his throat was
clear, and his tongue rapidly cleariugjoff. I also
used it as a liniment with castor oil and harts
horn for his neck. It seemed to me a wonder
fat cure, and I can but wish it could be known
to tile many poor mothers ia onr land who are
losing so mar._\ children by this dreadful disease.

I would never patronize or become connected
in anv way. with a ifcbpoi wbef<* the teachers !
practiced religious bigotry and fanaticism. The
following paragraph, relative to this subject,
was published in my school circular sixteen
years at;o, anil I have always entertained the
same sentiments, anc, in the management of a
School, will strictly adhere to the same doctrine :
“ Sectarianism in strictly and conscientiously
guarded against in instruction, conversation and
example; no better reason being necessary than
that this hateful principle has ca used the sh<*d
ding ot more gallons of human blood, than any
other ever propagated among men. There is no
i fie however dear or strong which it cannot sum
tier, no work however benevolent which ii cannot
blfgni. If a stronger opposing argument were
needed it might be found in this: That the Great
| Teacher and bis Apostles plainly, pointedly and
I frequently admotiished our race, tlir mgh the
| Bible, of the woeful consequences following is
the train of this blind god. Holding that school*
us well M Governments, should be entirely lode
pendent of all sects, as a Seminary we acknowl
edge n“»e. Respecting ail we leave them where
tbe Bible deev vn an equal footing and although
we honor and propagate the great truths of the
Bible we fuel it our duty, both by precept and
example, strenuously to oppose Sectarianism.’'
The discipline will bosfriat, but kind and pa
rental. The Teachers will endeavor to govern
by moral suasion, using severity only when ab
solntely necessary to preserve good order. No
pnpil will be permitted to join any Church with
out consulting with their parents or alter calm
and deliberate reflection. All public amuse
ments are forbid during the session for the rea
son that they greatly injure the pupil and throw
additional obstacles (of which there will always
be an unavoicable abundance,) in tlie way of
the Teachers. All intimate association between
our pupils, boarders or day scholars; and the op
posite sex is forbidden during the session except
<-n such occasions as may be granted them under
t! e supervision of a teacher. It is much easier
and more pleasant for young people to fall in
love than study text books. Tbe passion makes
both old and young so simple, that sensible
books would not benefit even If they would
use them .
j Instructions of parents and guardians respec
ting Btore accounts will be faithfully carried out,
Rules for the gov ernment of tbe School room
will be furnished each scholar upon entrance.
It is very important that every scholar should
be present the first day of the session and remain
uiotll the last.
Tho following are the different branches of
knowledge which we propose to have thorough
ly taught:

raphy, Grammer, History of the United States.

protracted sickness.
At present, 1 am not prepared to accommo
date boarders. Several families in town will
: hoard any number of boys and girls at a mod
erate charge.
Board and tui In can be paid with provisions
of any kind at market prices therefore you have
no excuse for not sending your children to
.school.
We promise competent Assistants as circum
stances may require.
1 must say that it is useless and unpatriotic
for citizens of 6outhe n Georgia to send their
sods anil daughters to distant places to beeduca
ted after the establishment of such a school a
mong them, by one who was boru raised and
educated in ihe South—who is permanently lo
cated among them, provided he is sustained, and
whoso interest is inseparably linked with their
future destiny. It is also a duty that every good
citizen owes to himself and bis neighbor, to lend
a helping hand to the noble and praiseworthy ef
fort to elevate the standard ol education io their
midst.
IF the people desire a Seminary of high char
acter, let them give me a trial lend me a help
ing hand and we will give a “pull altogether,”
ever bearing in mind the indubitable lact, that
•united we stand divided we fall.”
I desire tQ «-cc the country where I inde
pendent of all other section* of this Union in
educational advantages, and therefore I intend
to - pitch in” aud put my ebonlder to the wheel.

| dingly. For further particulars, address.
