Many of our readi rs ate well acquain
ted with these gentlemen, and have had
business transactions with them, and
wc feel sanguine that they will endorse
the assertion, that there does not live
■within the limits of this State, m .re
courteous, honorable and clever gentle
men. It will he seen by reference to
advertisement, that they are still en
gaged in the hardware business, at their
old quarters, No’s 148 and 100 Congress
street, Savannah, and ready to promptly
fill all orders in their lino of business, or
welcome customers in pet son.
Frank &. Echsteiu.
These gentlemen are succi s-mrs to the
late popular firm otS. M. Ledkrer & Cos.,
doing a dry goods business at 131
Broughton street, Savannah; and as an
evidence that they desire the patronage
ol the people ot this section of country,
they make a handsome display in the
columns of the Banker. Their slock,
the present season, is very large, and
embraces full lines of domestic and fan
cy goods. It is a good house, and we

A Good Investment.
Mr. W. F. Hooker offers for sale a

of "Quitman Factory’’ stock. Toe build

ol capitalists.

Public Debate
The public will remember that next
Monday evening, the 9th inst-, is the
time appointed for a public discussion
between the "Quitman Literary and De
bating Club” and the "Demosthenes So
ciety." It will take place in the Court
house hall, and the question for discus
sion is Swedish immigration. The Quit
man Club will maintain the negative of j
the proposition, at-d our country friends :
the affirmative.
Sight Singing.
It will be i bserved by an advertise
ment iu to day’s paper that Ptof. J. 1 ier
pont proposes to give lessons in vocal
music, providt and a class can be organized.
Those desirous of availing themselves
of this tender of instruction arc re
quested to meet at "Ten perance Hall”
on this (Friday) evening. Prof. Tier
post has no superb r, and few equals, as
a music teacher, and therefore we In pe
he will succeed iu organizing a large
class.
A Boisterous Church Assemblage.
The conduct of the "so-called'’ wor
shippers, who congregate at the colored
church, "over tie railroad,” is of so bids- I
terous a character, as to demand n pro
tost— with the request that a reputation i
of the Outrageous proceedings, as was !
carried on there on last Sunday night,
be suppressed as a nitisance. On said
occasion one of the Ethiopian sisterhood,!
became so thoroughly imbued with mis
taken religious enthusiasm, thnt she i
must have imagined that the devil alrea
dy bad her within his fiery domain, for
she startled the town with her yell3 for
mercy, at.d impressed thoso who wore
not conversant with the facts, with the
belief that some poor, inoffensive, and
defenseless femnlo was being murdered,
iiy inches, by some inhuman m nster.
Her shrieks were loud and distressing—
so much so that we wore about to leave
our residence and repair to the rescue of
the unfortunate victim who had incurred
the vengeance of a fiend incarnate—
when a sensible colored man pat in an
appearance, end quieted our fears, by
the assurance, that the disturbance was
“only some of dem niggers’foolishness.”
We would not, by any means, advise
interference with the devotions of our
colored friends, hut they should bo made
to understand, that midnight revels, al
though clothed in the garb of religions
enthusiasm, if it tranccnds the domain of
deeotum and interfers with the peace
and repose of a community, cannot he
tolerated, and must bo abated as a nui
sance.

Those "Flowers.” — On Friday last
we received a rustic briquet of "flowers,’
tastefully tressed in the shape of a chig
non, with the message, “Plant ’em in a
box, and il they grow yon may know 1
love you.” We would like very much
to know whether she loves us, but
owing to the nil favorableness of the sea
son, do not hke to risk her proposed
plan of finding ont; and even if they
toere to grow, and yield abundantly, we
would have no earthly use for any
more— just like them. Therefore we
have concluded to plant apart of them
in this column, and decorate unr press
with the remainder, and await its turn
ing White. Coup sitor.

The maxim tlmt the vo'cc of the people is the
voice of the vicinity, .nay in some cases, be open
to doubt, but the testimony of honest and en
lightened witnesses extending through a seiies
of years and alt to the same purport, is ’worthy
of credence, admits of no question. Upon such
i testimony the reputation of Hostetler s Stomach
! Bitters as an antidote and cure for many aii
i meats is based. During the twenty years that
I it has been before the world, innumerable prep
arations intended, to compete with it, have gone
up like rockets, and come down the extinguished
1 sticks. Meanwhile the progress of that incom
parable tonic lias been swift and steady al
! ways upward and onward tike the eagle s flight.
Its introduction produced a revointion in thera
peutics, and it proved to be one of those saluta
;ry revolutions that cannot go backwards. To
-1 day Hostetler’s Bitters is one of the most popu

, domestic or imported, on this side of the Atlan
■ itic. Asa cure for dyspepsia, bilions disorders,
I nervous affections, general debility, and asn pro-
I T entire of epidemic fevers, it takes precedence
of every other remedy. This fact should leach
| the ambitious cotintry dealers who endeavor to
j foist their local abortions on ’the public in its
stead, how ,futile their smalt attempts to cajole
the community must necessarily be. Where the
game fish have failed there is ao chance for the

Queen Victoria. —It is stated that the
health of Quean Victoria, fi r many
years a matter of anxiety to her subjects,
lias become more than ever the object of
their solicitude, and now we have the
reported remark of Disraeli that she is
"morally and physica'ly incapable of j
reigning much longer,” and that her ex- j
eessive devotion to her duties has bro j
ken her down. This he deplored, he- ;

allowances for the readiness <>f the ex

toward the Queen, in cons qnonce of j
her long retirement, and to make a lit- •
