SOMETHING JUICY.
Tlie following extract we lake from a
speech of John Mi Kweeny at Wooster,
O. ]Pcontains some good hints:
A cloud a great dial bigger than a
man’s hand lias been seen in tlie sky,
and will soon overspread the whole ifea
vens. The days of Hie Fanner Republic
will be restored, if we but work haimo
niousty together, and continued Hie
speaker, that reminds me of the anguish
that now wrings the hearts of many of
our Radical friends oil (lie subject of the
Democratic parly voting for Farmer
Greeley. Great is their tribulation ami
anxiety on our account! Why, I lids
day mot with an apparently inconsolable
Radical, who told me that lie could have
gathered ns under Ids wings as a lieu
gathcrcth tier chickens; that slumber
came not, for these many nights, to ins
eyelids; ami that his heart grew sad to
weeping because of tho defections and
shortcomings, and long goings and de
partures of the Democracy. Now 1 rec
ollected witli what unction this ancient
Radical used to discourse a few years
ago about stringing Copper-heads to
lamp posts, and how ho used to indulge
in other playful remarks in that direc
tion; and I said unto him, look hero old
cove, dry up your eyes—chase that start
ing tear away— “Riaojap, William Riley!
and come along with mol” Should jour
zeal no longer know—should jour tears
forever flow—it won’t do any good. Wo
are past crying for, and as to gathering
us! we ate uot the kind of chickens to be
gathered just at this time under old Rad
ical hens. So again 1 said unto him,
wipe every tear away, besides it makes
your eyes red and you know there is a
question about who hath rod ness of eyes,
and the answer is not complimentary to
the drinking habits of lhe red-eyed indi
vidual, and in these curious times hardly
any fellow knows what makes another
follow’s eyes red; and 1 furtl or said to
him on this festival day, come exulting
away—cheer up and givo us a song of
Grant—and lie said to me, how can 1
give a song of Ulysos and Jerry Golbath,
sometimes called Wilson, down here in
the smoke of Carolina tar? No, by the
waters of Killbuck I’ll sit down and re
sume my crying where 1 left efi aud

the willows growing thereby. Selabl
And we parted.
I tell you, my friends, this is but the
beginning of tlie end. We are pushing
forward flic Greeley column, and like the
soul of our lately deceased fellow c’ti
zen, Joint Brown, we are "marching
on;” wo intend restoring the era of good
feeling; and we intend to continue these
rival and ratification meetings until every
Government rat shall be el, ared out of

A liiiiheinaii’s Dream
'Ed' is a biakcn an employed on the
Chicago, Alton and St. Louis Railroad.
He was married only a few weeks ago.
, His wife lias been wearing a piece of
red fl innel round her neck for the lasi
j lon days and complaining of a wrj’ neck.
This is how it came to pass:
‘Ed’had just been doing extra fluty,
1 taking a sick friend’s trains in addition
lo Irs own, and so had not been in Led
for forty-eight hours. Asa matter of
course lie was nearly wain out, and as
soon as his sapper had been < aton lie
! went to bed to sleep, perchance to dream.
He was soon locked in tlie arms of Mor
pheus and Mary, and dreaming. Again
his foot was on his native platform, and
he heard the warning toot of the whistle
for brakes. Tin; shadowy train bore
him mviftlj- on; the telegraph posts fleet
ed past quicker and quicker; the whole
country fl and by like a panorama mount
on sheet-lightning rollers. In Ids dream
lie heard tar nil’ another roar, and swing
ing out l.y the railings he saw another
train coming at lightning speed around
tlie curve. Both trains were crowded
with passengers; in another moment j
they would rush together, and from the
ruins a cry of agony would shiver to the
jingling stars from the lips of the maim- !
ed and dying. Tlie engineer had seen .
their danger, for at that moment, in his
diearn, he heard the whistle calling for ,
brake sound loud aud unearthly. W ith
the strength of desperation he gripped
the brake and turned it down. There
was a j’cll of pain, and ‘Ed’ woke to find
himself sitting up in tied and holding his
wife’s enis, having almost twisted oil
her bead.
That’s how ‘Ed's’ wife came to wear a
piece of red flannel .round her throat and
cornplaiu of a wry neck.— Missouri Dem
ocrat.
"What a nuisance!” exclaimed a gen
llemati at a coneret, as a young fop in
j front nl him kept talking in a loud voice
to a'a !j at Ids side. "Did your for to
me, sir?” threateningly demanded toe fop. j
“Oil, no; I meant tDo musicians there,!

struments that 1 can't hear your conver

A young woman once married a man
by the name of Dost against Hie wish
of her parents. After a short time they
began to quiprei, and she attempted to
return lo her father’s house, but lie n fus- i

And she got up and dusted.
