JQUITMAN, DECEMBER 20, 1872.
Robinson's Show. -An Agent of Old John
Robinson’s Mammoth Show visited us on Wednes
day, and authorized us to state that the immense
caravan will certainly be in Quitman on the
24th, as advertised, and everything announced,
will be on exhibition. This show is no humbug,
and our people, no doubt, will turn oaten masse.
It is a wonderful affair.
Teuxtrs.--We are indebted to Judge Morrison,
of this county, for samples of turnips raised by
him. They were very large and flue.
Tut: Cobnut ßANtt-KN'TKttTAiNUKNT.—To merely
assort that tbo entertainment given by the Hand
on last Wednesday evening, was a success,
would but feebly express the opinion of the
verv flueaudiancc in attendance. It was more
than a success—it completely eclipsed anything
of the hind ever before attempted in Quitman--
and naught but praise is uttered by the tongue
of every one who was present. Ihe music aas
splendid, and the characters personated were
perfection.—although we must say that some of
the clever young gentlemen matte terrible ugly
mimic niggers; and the “Prolessor” makes as
jolly a lat old Dutchman as ever-‘swigged’ - luge 1
beer or strode tbe stage.
This community is under obligations 10 *he j

will be given on next Saturday night, with an j
entire change of programme. Ret every one at

OBITUARY.
Ocsleys, Lowxiies County, Ga., i
December 2. 1872. f
I Mr. Eoitor:—lt becomes my duty to announce
to distant relatives and friends, the sad intelli
gence of the death of Mr Jesse Wade, 'on Tues
day. tbe 26th of November, 1872. A noble pa
triarch lias fallen—an honest man has left the
world—a strong friend of temperance, who join
ed the Washingtonians in ls2-l. and kept bis vow
lor forty-eight years, has been removed from the
field of strife and of conflict.
A Master Mason, who belonged to that honor
able and useful fraternity since lis47, ins been
called from labor to refreshment; helms no far
ther use for plumb line and trowel. His exam
j pie is a legacy to the Order. Often, as a Mason,
I he used the cement of brotherly love and charity
| in uniting the brotherhood in the bonds of fra
i tern-ai love, never suffering either politics, how
j ever inflamed, or religion, in the strife of secta
! rian bigotry, to separate him from bis brethren.
He has joined the tried and accepted brethren
! in the Celestial Lodge.
; Brother-Jes-e Wade was a ebrfs ian. He join
; ed the Methodist church in 1821, and was a fol
i lower of Jesus Christ. 1I« delighted in the law
j of tho Lord, and in his law he meditated day and
j night. I had the pleasure, often within the last
! three years to meet him in Quitman: he delighted
in religious conversation, and dwelt frequently
jon the glorious truth that Christ had power on
earth to forgive sins, in walkingwith Christ, he
I had the blest assurance, by the witness of the
i Ifotv Spirit. that he wars child of God. Brother
Wade bare testimony to this doctrine in lire,
ttrd when his life was ebbing out from n dread
fully mangled arm, tm u to pieces in a saw-gin.
he spoke often and freely, that no knew Heaven
j was his home, and begged his friemls to desist
j from all efforts to save his life: that they were
j detaining him from Heaven.
! On Tuesday morning he fell asleep in Jesus.
Rest noble pilgrim, worthy Washingtonian, ne
1 cepted Master, joyful Christian: your lad battle 1
jis fought, and the Chaplain of our salvation has |
| called you to come, and bo with him at homo,
there to enjoy the banquetofeternalhappiness.
