$250 00 was the amount paid—that the

A MODEL NEWSPAPER
THE SAVANNAH DAILY NEWS.
The Savannah Daily Morntxu News is ac
knowledged by the press and people to be the
best daily paper south of LnuipviUe and east of
New Orleans. Carrying withjt the prestige and
reliability of ag'ii, it has all the vigor and vitality
of youth, and; its enterprise he a gatherer ot the
the latest and tn.shcst news has astonished its
contemporaries and met the warm approbation
of the public.
During the year 1873, no expense of time, la

journalism, and to deserve thefiAtteringencoini
t urns heaped upon it from all quarters. There
lms, as yet, been no serious attempt made to ri
val the special telegrams which the News inau
gurated some years ago, aud the consequence is,
that the reader in search of the latest intelligence
always looks to the Mcumnu News. The tele
graphic arrangements of the paper are such that
the omissions made by the general press reports
are promptly and reliably implied by its special
correspondents.
The Morning News has lately been enlarged
to a thirty six column paper, and this broad
scope of type embraces, daily, everything of in
terest tbai. t transpires in thedoma nos Literature,
Art, Science, Folitir.s. Religion, and General In
telligencc: giving to the reader more and better
digest matter Ilian any other paper in the lute,
if, is. perhaps needless to speak of the politics
of the Morning News. For years and years in
deed, since its establisement it has been a re
presentative .Southern paper, and from that
time to the present, in all conjunctures, it has
consistently and persistently maintained Demo
cratic States Rights principles, and labored, with
an ardor and devotion that know no abatement,
to promote and preserve the Interests' and honor
of l lie South. .
The special features of the Mm ;,ng News will
be retained and improved upon dm ing the ensu
ing year, and several new attractions will be
added.
The Georgia Nova Hems, with their (plaint
and pleasant humor, and the epitome of Florida
affairs, w ill be continued during the year. The
local department will be, as it has been, for the
past year, tin* most complete and ,reliable to be
found in any Savannah paper, and the commer
