HOME AM> MOTH Ell.
Never were tliero words of sweeter
import. Our language lias failed to dis
cover two words so analogous, so full of
that heart-felt, meaning which, without
display, attract the most casual observer.
Only those who have been deprived of
their enjoyment, know Low to appreciate,
to its fullest extent, their wuilll. Home!
Home!! All! how many dear memories
cling around thy name -bow many dear
associations cluster in, well remembered
love around the spot where in boyhood’s
happy hours, we played at mother’s knee
-how indelibly iuipiessed on our minds
is the fondness with which a sister’s gen
tle muti-tration* made home attractive!
’Two* there we lisped the first sweet w-.rd
that gladdened a mother’s heart, and
there it was, too, perhaps, we bade a last
forewell to some loved and cherished one,
just as their gentle spirit, commenced its
winged flight to the balmy regions of
that home, whose roof is the sheltering
influence of God’s own love. Home!
Can man ever forget, its ties? Can he
ever ignore the recollections it,has stamp
ed on his soul ? No, never ! He mav
drain to its bottom the cup of woe In
may dye his hands in a fellow creature's
blood, and thereby harden the better dic
tates of bis conseience, but in the hour of
his calm reflections, there will arise a pic
ture to bis mind of bis past life, and
away in the bin k round will be the out
iitn of that home he left, perchance,
years ago, in all the bright expectancy
of youth’s most sanguine hopes. Forgot
home? Never, never, never! No matter
how humble it may have been no mat
ter if misfortunes, hard and terrible, had
been around it, still it was home. Every
heart that lias known its attractions, will
foster their recollection, though oceans
may divide them from t he spot.
The name of home is sweet, hut, read
ers, there is a name whose worth the
poet’s inspiration has never sung satis
faeloiilv, to whose inestimable goodness
the loftiest, flights of genius has never
done justice. That name is Mol her. Who
can fathom the depths, who can declare
the meaning of a mother’s love? She
who gave us our being, who through in
fancy watched our every care who,
through boyhood, smiled on our every
manly action, and who, in manhood’s es
tate, looked with prayerful consideration
on our aspirations - is t he most unselfish
friend allotted us on earth. Every friend
may forsake us, and life’s future appeal
dark and gloomy, hut a mother will stiij
cling to us her pure and noble heart
will be ever ready to pour out t o us the
fulness of its love, her ftrnis will ever be
i pen to receive us. and if. perchance, God
should call us to His home, ln-r bosom
will bleed in anguish no other mortal can
know. Ah! how more than comforting
is it to a heart tossed about by life’s tur
bid and tempestuous tide, to know that
a mother’s jnavcis, daily are offered for
our deliverance to feel t hat her heart
Wats in verrison with ours’ in its every
joy and sorrow. Home and mother’
Take them, fellow beings, as two of tie
most precious gifts of earth. Take them
as talismen for your life, and cherishing j
their influence, you cannot but feel that
there is a home where mothers never are j
parted from loved ones, where the low
cadence of life's dark waves is drowned
by the sweet chorus, sung by mothers,
with the gentle chime of cheiuh voices,'
whose fust lisp was at a mother’s knee.,
in an earthly home, 1 ut whose anthems '
now resound through Heaven’s home.

LOAFING.
We find the following in an exchange,
and it contains so much truth and good
advice, that we give it space in our ool
urnus, and commend its observance to
our readers :
Young man. pay attention. Don’t be
a losfei Tdon’t keep a loafer’s company ;
don’t hang about loafing places. Better
work than to sit around day after day, or
stand about corners with your bands in
vour pockets —1« tter for your own health
