Mr. Dallas of course refused, saying that tho indispensable qualification for an American passport, that of “United States citizenship," docs not exist. _ Tiie wennh, not liking this treatment, gives Mr. Dallas her views upon Ameri can citizenship. A London barrister takes up the cause and forwards the letter to the Daily Nows under the title of “a correspondence which lias recent ly taken place between Miss 8. P. ThRTOR TO tho year 1847, Superphotphato formation of sulphate of lime, thus abstract ing one atom of lime from the bones, a solu ble phoaphate had been formed. In 1847, J. J. Mopes made a seriea of experiments, thus: he found, analytically, that Peruvian Guano contained the neoeaaary elements for insu ring the growth of plants, but not in the right relative proportions to each other. He instituted * —* S: of Peruvian Guano, twenty pounds of sul phate of ammonia, formed a mixture every way superior to Peruvian Guano, and that it would not excite the soil, but would con tinually add to its fortuity. Ho had (bund that one barrel of blood, fresh from the animal, mixed with a cord of organic matter, would, by fermentation, pro duce a manure equal to a cord of well rotted stable manure. He further found'that sev enteen barrels of blood, when driod, would make one barrel, and! that blood could be procured at comparitivoly little coat, in cer tain sections; that it could be'dried by .cook ing and pressing so as to produce a dry pow der, and by adding to the above named in gredients an equal weight of dried bullock's blood, a manure is formed one hundred pound» of which are cpual in power and lasting ef fect to one hundred' and eighty-five pounds of the beat Peruvian Guano. Since he has offered his invention to the farmers 6f the country, some fifty companies havo imitated this article under various names, and' for the purpose of rendering it papular, have traducedProf. Mapes and his article, claiming to make that pt'a superior quality. Every year presents new imitators of this artielo, who manufacture an inferior arliole, using tho mineral phospates as a ba sis. instead of the calcined bones of animals. Notwithstanding *11 this, the demand for Mapes’ Nitrogonised Superphosphate of Lime has doubled.
