Tne Wbatbbb.—-Our Atlanta exclinn
ges are daily discussing this important
and fruitful subject, but they must not
think they enjoy a monopoly of tho com
modity. We have a good deal of it our
selves, and quite & variety. The first pf
this week it was very cold and accom
panied with frost; on Wednesday it
was milder ; on Thursday it seemed as if
a bright smile had spread itself over
the face of nature, and on Friday she
was "gathering her broumlika gathering
storm," and as "a roaring lion walking
about seeking what it might devour."
We are very much afraid it may bite
some of our fruit that has peeped out a
little too soon to see what is going on.
There is however a great deal of it that
is not far enough advanced to be dam*
aged, and we still have hopes of luxu
riating this spring and summer on olraw-
borries, peaches und cream, provided
“always" our friends will remember us
about then and invito us out, up and
around.
P. S.—After writing tho foregoing yes
terday afternoon it commenced a stea
dy rain, as if nature was weeping at
the thought of depriving us of so much
enjoyment.

ggy rho Atlanta Amerieaii, in a notice
of one of Rev. 0. W. Howard’s lectures
on the history and resources of Georgia,
parenthetically suggests that the task of
embalming tho memory of the founders
of our greut State, in the imperishable
numbers of poesy should bo undertaken
by one of Georgia’s own tair daughters
^ of song, and names Mrs. Mary E. Bryan
us a lady well qualified for ' the work.—
The tliemA is a noble one, and Mrs.
Bryan’s able and graceful pen could do
it justice. We hope that tho American'a
suggestion will be adopted.
We are pleased to learn that Mr.
Howard intends to favor tho citizens of
Columbus with his lecture, which is re
presented by all who havo heard it,. as
intensely interesting and attractive.—

phato of ammonia, to. mod a mixture every
way superior to Peruvian Guano, and that
it would not excite Ilia .soil, but would con
tinually add to Us fertility.
He had found that ono barrel of blood,
fresh from tho animal, mixed with a cord of
organic matter, would, by. fermentation, pro-
duco a manure equal to a cord of wellrniled
stable manure. He further found that'sev
enteen barrels .of blood, when dried, would
make one barrel, and that blood .could ho
trocurcd at comparitivcly little cost, in cer-
ain sections; that it could be dried by cook
ing and pressing so as toproduce a dry pow
der, and by adding to the above named in-
bredients an equal weight of dried bullock's
glood, a manure is formed one hundred pounds
of which are epual in power and lasting ef
fect to one hundred and eighty-five pounds
of the best Peruvian Guano. I
Since ho has offered his invention to the
farmers of the country, some fitly companies
have imitated this article tinder various
names, and for the purposo of rendering it
popular, have traduced Prof, Mapcs and nil'
article, claiming to inako that of a superior
quality. Every year presents now imitators
of this article, who manufacture an Inferior
article, using the mineral pkospates as a ba
sis. instead of tho calcined hones of animals.
Notwithstanding all this, the demand for
Mopes' Nitrogonised Superphosphate of
Lime has doubled.
Peruvian Guano contains' an excessive
amount of ammonia, the only, use of which
is to render water' capable of dissolving a
larger amount of. the inorganio constituents
