Interesting Mexican News. ’ # Niw Orleans, .March 29th.—The staamshipi Wave, from Vera Cruz, on the 22d inst;, put into Berwiok Bay, shsgt of coal, and comes here for sup plies of ammunition. The news by this arrival is interesting. The bombardment of Vera Crus con tinued until the morning of the 17th, when Gen. Miramon attaoked the city, bat after half an hour's combat he was repulsed with considerable loss. Wo men and children had' taken refuge in the Castle to the number of 2500. The bombardment, was resumed the same day with renewed vigor,* doing much damage. One shell burst in the American Consulate, which seemod to be the special mark for Miramon’s mor tars. Another assault was attempted on the night of the 10th; it was, howevef, quick! ly repulsed. Oorvassal’s force had captured a con voy of 15 wagon loada of munitions of It was captured near Jalapa, vras^dea- tined for- Miramon’s array. It-was guarded by 700 men, all of whom were dispersed. Miramon raised the seige of Vera Criis on the 21st, and had withdrawn his troops towards the Capitol. (1 Now Jersey Political News. ‘ •> Washington, March 28.—Private dis patches from Trenton, New Jersey, state that eight out of fourteen delegates to the Charleston Convention are in favor of Judge Douglas. Having been 63,000,- 000, lbs., it is now 1,000,000,000 lbs.— This is one of those giant faots whioh stand bead and shoulders higher than the crowd—so high and so brood that we can neither overlook it nor offeot not to see it. It proves the existenoe of a thousand smaller facts that must stand under its shadow. It tells of sixteen times as many mills,' sixteen times all many English families living by work ing those mills, sixteen times as much profit derived from sixteen times as much capital engaged in this manufac ture. It carries after it sequence* of inoreased quantity of freights and insu rances, ana necessities for sixteen times the amount of customers to oonsumo, to our profit, the immense amount of produce we are turning out. There ore not many suoh foots as these arising in the quiet routine of industrial history. It is so large and so steady that we eon steep our national policy by it '; it is so important to us that we should be reduc ed to embarrassment if it were sudden ly to disappear. It teaches us to perse vere in a policy which has produced so wonderful a result; its benefioentop eration makes it essential to us to deal carefully with It, now that we have got it.—London Timet. .
