. “The Unwilling Witness.”
Boston, Mass., April 4.—Sanborn, who
refused to answer the summons before
the Senate Harper’s Ferry Committee,
was arrested at Concord lost- night by
Federal officers, but he was subsequent^
ly rescued and kept by the citizens, un
til a writ of habeas corpus was Issued.—
A hearing in the case is now progressing
here before a full bench of the Superi
or Court. The Legislature laid on the
table joint resolutions authorizing the
employment of the States Attorney in
Sanborn's defence.

The Right Spirit.
The Rome Light Guards, the new
"**<^£plunteor Corps, recently organized in
this place, have sent an order to the
Roswell Manufacturing Company for
the goods—Groy casstmeres—of which
their uniforms are to he made. As the
martial spirit which produced the or
ganization of this and hundreds of
other Military Companiesin the South,
was aroused by tne invasion of a South
ern State by an armed band of traitors
from the North, carrying out to their
logical conclusion the ^teachings of the
dominant political party ip that section,
it is right and a patriotic duty.to work
out the independence we are preparing
to fight for whenever it may be necessa-
ry, by patronising home manufactures
in the purchase of ail the equipments
'"'that can be furnished by our own sec
tion. We hope every new Volunteer
Company in the South will follow the
example of the Rome Light Guards, if
they have not set the example them
selves. Prove your fidelity to the rights
and interests of the South in this way,
and when the time comes, her people
will believe you are ready to fight for
them.
Bailey Troupe.
This poular company, after a short ab
sence, returned to Rome on last Wed
nesday, and have been entertaining de
lighted and crowded audiences every
night since. Miss Emily, who was pre
vented by illness from taking her part
^jn the plays, during their lost visit, has
entirely recovered, and her performance
fully meets the expectations, of those
who have eagerly looked for her appear
ance. They are now surprised that
they could have been, before, so well
pleased-without her.
Mr. Baily’s is quite fortunate in secu
ring the services of Mr. Ferris. He is a
decided acquisition to the oompany,
and notwithstanding he 1b a young
man, it is evident that he is an " old
stager." Haile, in hisinegro characters,
is inimitable—Christy’s or theCiwnpbell
-Minstrell’s cannot boast his superior.—
His every look, word and motijm brings.
own a perfect hailstorm of applause.—
Wo would advise those who have no
dosire to “grow fat,”juot to attend the
Bailey’s exhibitions, for they will be
sure to laugh three solid hours.
We cannot commend too highly the
decorous deportment of the entire
Troupe. They well deserve the liberal
patronage they have received in Rome.

Chills and Fever!—One of the
remedies that has ever boon laid before the
public for Fever and Ague, and which have
received the highcBt cuconium from the press
and the peoples, is Dr. J. Hostotter’s Celebra
ted Bitters. Who would endure the tortures
arising from this terriblodisease, wheh.it esn
be so easily cured ? Whowould endure sleep
less nights, burning fevers and icy chills al
ternately, when a remedy can bo obtained
for a mere trifle ? And yothow many families
linger outa painful existence under this dead
ly blight, and do nothing hut gulp down
quinine, until it becomes as common os their

None but the foolish and weak would hesitate
to procure these valuable Bitters, and sav.e
