Dr. Dykes is about commenoing a building nearly opposite to the Presby terian Church to be used for the pres ent only for the purpose of Wool Card ing, but contemplates before long en larging his building and putting in ope ration a Woolen Factory. We wish him abundant success in this enterprise. Miles Roes3 is about commenoing a fine two or three story brick store on tho first lot below the Book Store of H. A. Smith, Geo. & Ala. Railroad. There is no gassing or blowing iu re gard to the operations’of this road but the work is moving on os rapidly as pos sible iu a wholesome and . substantial way. John D. Gray, who has contract ed to have the first twelve miles ready for the cross ties by the first of January next, is one of tho most energetic and reliable .contractors in tho South and a man who never foils in filling his part of the engagement. On Tuesday last ho brought on a small force and has now commenced building cabins for the j workmen and making other prelimina ry preparations. The Committee pn the Judiciary wete instructed to inquire into the expedien cy of any further legislation relative to suoh - cases as that of Brown, Jr.', and Sanborn. Mr. Hale introduced a resolution to adjourn* on Wednesday until Tuesday, the 22d of May next. The Houmas Land bill was made, the special order of the day for the first Monday in May.. ’ '.. •Mr.' Latham, of California, delivered -a strong Southern Rights speech. In the House to-day the resolution to adjourn until the first of May, was laid on the table by apntyority o£ forty-three. A bill, was introduced ahd referred to rovide for the supprwsion of the Coo- ■.cari vessel lie trade in American vessels, The following were'passed 'the joint resolution appropriating '$50,000 to de fray the expenses of the Japanese Em bassy, and the bill appropriated $400,000 to restore the curtailed Postal service. Washington, April 17.—The resolu tion offered in the Senate for recess was defeated. The rest of the proceedings are unimportant. In the House, the resolution introdu ced for an adjournment till the first of May, was rejected. The Deficiency bill was defeated. A Feminine Pike’s Pcaker. Nebraska City, March 31.—Mr. Beajrdsle, who has returned from his ranoh, one hundred and twenty miles west from 'this oily, reports having met persi her back; We fear she is demented, ©rosy, but we hope she may make at least $100,000. Express Company Robbed. New York, April 17th.—The safe of the Adams’ Express, coming %n the train from Boston was robbed last night near New Haven, of sixteen thousand dollars.
