A Little Thing.—A wo

“My heart’s broke, sir,” she replied,
“Can I do anything for you?’* he

“No, sir, nothing,” Was her sad re

“Well, God can help you, sister, and
I will go home and ask him to ao h.”
Said the gentleman, It was a vefy

one sweet word, sister, fell
oil upon the wounded spirit,
strengthened, and went to hM IdWly
home. When she knelt totell jesttsihsr
sorrows, she felt that a brother had
been before her. His prayers were an
swered, and her Bpirlt was calmed, it
was a little thing to wash the Saviour’s
feet with tears, and wipe them with
”ie hairs of her head, and yet Mail’s
Bering of love was of more value in
our' Lord’s esteem than were nil the
titles of the proud Pharisees. She who

‘ Whon -the Convention adjourned this
morning, it must not ho forgotten that
the seoedors had not returned, and hence
they are outside of the parly. Tlie very
men who have so loudly and bitterly
assailed you os a rebel and as a’ disorgan
ize!, who have declared that you are
self-excommunicated, are themselves out
side of 1 the organization. This includes,
nearly all the Administration leaders of
the South ; partieularly~Mr. Slidell and
his set, and tlieso are the nearest to the
President’s/ throne. Bigler, Baker,
Brown, Randall, and others, though
remaining in the Convention were, it is
said, ready at any moment, to strike
hapds ; with the disunionists. So that
not only : the Convention, but the organ
ization, and above all, the principles of
the Demoeratio party, are with the
frjends of. Douglas.
* * * * . .
Do not suppose that I abandon the
election of Judge Douglas. . On the
contrary, it may be aohiev.ed .by the
continued, resolution and unity of his
friends. Ho apd they have a fierce^
contest before theip, but they will suc
ceed if they so conduct themselves, as T
have no doubt they, will,
k 1 * a
’ Meanwhile, let the men who, have
betrayed public sentiment at Charleston
be held to a strict accountability. They
should not he permitted to remain at.
.their hofnes a day ’before being called
to account. They will, no doubt, try to
defend* themselves; but they can be
p oru8hed by the facts and buried under
a mountain of obloquy. It will be well
to get rid of suoh recreants. A party
that consents tQ be led by such men will
deserve to be extinguished.
