Beyond these dulling winds and gloomy
skies.
Beyond death’* cloudy portal,
There is a land where beauty never dies
And love becomes immortal.
A land
b is ever dimmed by
Whose fields are ever vernal;
Where nbthihg beautiful can ever facto,
But blooms for aye, eternal.
We may not know how sweet its balmy
How^r’ieht and fair its flowers;
We may not hear the songs that eoho
there
Through those enchanted bowers.
The oity’s shining towers we may not
key
That opes those gates elysian,
But sometimes, when adown the western
sky
The fiery sunset lingers, ....
Its golden gates swing tnward noiselessly
Unlocked by unseen fingers.
And while they stand a moment half
ajar,
Gleams front the inner glory
Stream brightly through the azure vault
afar,
And half reveal the story.
Oh, land unknown! Oh, land of love
divine!
Father all wise, eternal,
Guido, guide these wandering way-worn
feet of mine
Into those pastures vernal.
Fioht with an Eagle.—In Canada,
the other day, a young man was plow
ing in a field, when his attention was
attracted by the barking of a bull-ter
rier dog, and on looking after him he
discovered the animal _ engaged in a
fight with on eagle. Seizing a stick he
ran to the assistance of the terrier, who
was receiving the worst of it from the
eagle. On approaching, the eagle turn
ed upon his new adversary, and in all
probability would have overcome him
had not the faithful dog come to his
reseue and renewed the fight. After a
short scuffle between the eagle and his
two adversaries he was despatched, and
the young farmer carried his carcass
borne as a trophy of success. He meas
ured nine feet from wing to wing.

Symptoms of a Diseased Liver. 4
P AIN in the right side, under the edge of
the ribs, increase on pressure; soihetimes
the pain »in the left side; the patient is
rarely able to lie on the left side; sometimes
the pain is felt under the shonlder blade,
and it frequently extends to the top of the
shoulder, and is sometimes mistaken for a
rheumatism in the arm. The stomach is
affected with loss of appetite and sickness,
the bowels in general are costive, sometimes
alternative with lax; the head is troubled
with pain, accompanied with a dull, heavy
sensation in the back part. There is gene
rally a considerable loss of memory, accom
panied with a painful sensation of having
left undone something which ought to have
been done. A slight, dry cough is some
times an attendant. The patient complains
of weariness and debility; he is easily startled,
his feet are cold or burning, and he com
plains of a prickly sensation of the skin;
his spirits are low; and although he is satis
fied that exercise would be beneficial to him,
yet he can scarcely summon up fortitude
enough to try it. In fact, he distrusts every
remedy. Several of the above symptoms
attend the disease, but cases have occurred
where few of them existed, yet examination
of the body, after death, has shown the
r. to have been extensively deranged.
