Ho retires because of differ ence of opinion between himself and the Senior Editor upon the political question growing out of the withdrawal of the Southern delegates from the Charleston Convention. A few days ago we announced the retirement of Mr. Burke from the Intelligencer for the same reason. Our Atlanta contempo raries do not seem to agree well in their own households. Wiiy?—Can any one tell us why the Macon “painful forebodings" Commit tee neglected to ask the advice of Sena tor Iverson and Judge McDonald, in the present crisis? Was their advice worth nothing? orwere they forgotten? or was it well known that timy would endorse the Secedors and repudiate Douglas and Squatter Sovereignty. Direct Trade.—The ship Lone Star, from Bordeaux, the pioneer in the direct trac.e line, is to be loaded at Nor folk cUistSy with cotton. The Norfolk Lay Book says: As this is the opening of a direct trade, it has been determined, by the gentlemen having the matter in hand, to give all who desire it room in this ship lor any article which they may desire to export. This arc-augment is most admirable, and will enable many persons to commence a .foreign trade with little risk; for in this case they will bo accommodated with more or less room, us they may desire, aud will not bo necessitated to take up a vessel and risa a whole cargo in a new enterprise. This accommodation is extended to parties out of this city, os well as thoie in the city. One of the Meteoric stones.—The Ohio State Journal of the 18th, speaking oftho recent meteoric showers in Guern- say county, of that State, says; “One of tho meteors has been laid up on our table by Mr. John Burdick, of this city, who dug it from its conceal ment in the bosom of tho earth on his K farm in Guernsay county. The meteor flushed upon our astonished vision, per fectly docile, a black, wedge-shaped mass of conglomerate rock, with a very mysterious smell. The meteor weighs just nine pounds, and was seen to de scend like a streak of lightning, blnzirt.g like molten iron. It penetrated the earth n'bout a foot and a half, leaving huge hole. Personal. The intention is to underrun a similar length of wire on the European side, and it is thought by the sanguine promoters of ocean telegraphing that then the Atlantic ca ble w L be made to werk. Dyspepsia.—This is a very distressing complaint, and gives the patient more suffer ing than almost any other disease, in fact, it is a combination ot many complaints in one. The symptoms arc numerous, and are of na ture or nlmestnUothcr complaints combined. From this fact arise the veay many cases where this disease is mistaken for some other, and so improperly treated.
