WabtiMAii* Tobacco Hops*.—We
take pleasure in calling attention to the
Card of Messrs. Weatherford, Sloan &
Thomas. Mr. W. has an extensive ac
quaintance in this section, and is known
to bo one of the best and most reliable
dealers in Tobacco that the country
affords. Mr. Sloan, our townsman, is as
clever as the cleverest, a man of No. 1
business habits ar.d qualifications, and)
all things considered we seriously doubt
'whether retailors dan get their supplies
ton as favorable terms elsewhere. Mr.
Thomas we are not acquainted with
but the fact that he is associated with
the other two is sufficient recommenda
tion for him.

jg*Blonilin’t first trip of the season
on Tuursday did not o.ill together as
many people as did some of his voyages
last year. The main rope, 101H) feet in
length, is stretched across the gorge be
low the suspension bridge, over the most
fearful spot to be found in the whole
length of the river. There is a slight
turn in the river here, and the waters,
imprisoned by the rocky walls on eith
er side, boil and heave with awful tur-
bulency—so qruoh that no boat could
live mere for a moment. The rope is
mure securely put up than it was last
year; the guys, 64 in number, 32 on
either side, lapping in the centre, and
leaving no gap, as was the case before.
Tho lime for starting from this side was
fixed at four o’clock, but he did not
start until five minutes before five. He
stopped only two or three times, and
ouue, when about midway over, lay at
full length on his back, with as much
apparent unconcern as if stretched se-
* curely on his bed. When near the op
posite shore, he made a brief pause,
standing perfectly still, while a <la-
guerrean artist took his picture. The
trip occupied about six minutes. On
his arrival in Canada he was greeted by
the people on that side with loud cheers.
In a short time he started on his return
and travelled back in a very orderly
and sedate manner. There was_proba
bly a thousand persons on the bridge.—
Altogether there were some twenty-five
hundred to three thousand persons
looking on from various points. .It is
understood that Mr. Rlondin will re
peat his crossings at intervals of about
two weeks, and that, on the next occa
sion, something in tire wonderful way
will be introduced.—Buffalo Commercial
Advertiser.
As Awrcrt, Wabsiso.—We hoard
yesterday, from an entirely reliable
and responsible source, the particulars
of on occurrence which can only be
looked uoon as an instance of Divine
rebuke for taking tire name of the Al
mighty in justification of a falshood.—
We refrain from mentioning names,
through consideration of the parties,
who are respectable persons, residing
the«outh-western section of the city, n
appears that a few days since the aunt
of a a oung girl of about ergtheen years
of age, accused her of having been guil
ty of eome misconduct, which she posj-
tiveif-denied, on being egain accuaed,
she called upon God to strike her blind
if she was not tolling the truth. In a
moment after, acoording to her own
—■ statement, a film seemed to paw before
her eyes, and in the course of five min-
ntes^he was totally blind, and con
tinued sightless ever since. The afflreti
ed victim of her own impiety confused
that she had called upon her Moker to
justify her in what was a falsehood. May
ooUhls be considered as * temble in-
stanco of Divine wrath, and may not

Rail Road News.—We are happy to
announce that Judge Walker, President
of the Alabama and Tennessee Rail
Road, lias contracted with a company of
perfectly reliable gentlemen to com
plete the road from Talladega to Jack
sonville, by the first Of February, 1869,
and to Gadsden by the first of Ootober
following. The whole distance, we be
lieve, is about fifty-seven miles. Tho
remainder of the road to Gunter’s
Landing on the Tennessee rivefi only
awaits the completion of the lowol por
tion as far as Gadsden, by which iron
can be transported, to be finished.
This enterprise, we regard tho most
important now in progress, both in its
influence upon the progress and pros
perity of Selma, ana in the contribu
tion it will make to the wealth of the
State at large.—Selma Issue.
Douglas in Nobtu Carolina.—We
have heretofore alluded to strong man
itestationB in favor of Douglas, in North
Carolina, since theadjournment of the
Charleston Convention. The Newbem
Progress says, with a tone of assurance
l'‘The North Carolina delegation will

Postmaster Fowler Still in New
