Who cares or should care whether the Rumps win or lose ? I believe that the Douglasites are the most consistent—in fact, the only Democratic party, per se. They have the manliness, any way, to say right out in meetin’, that slavery shall not go in the• Territories— just what the Cincinnati platform meant, and Jimmy Buchanan meant, and Doug las meant, all the time I Just what Ste phens meant, and Toombs meant, and all the rest of the recreant sons of the South, who, in 1856, aided or abetted the election of Buck and Brock! This is just what was meant in 1850, when Cal ifornia was admitted upon the Squatter principle. The Captured §luvers. A Havana letter soyst The capture of.the three slavers off this coast by the Auietucnn cruisers still continues to be the alhabsorbing topic of conversation among the ilavana merchants, many of whom are largely interested in this trade, and (he officers of our Navy arc roundly abused for not respecting the. national doctrine of the right of search. The loss of throe ves sels on the coast of Cuba, after having escaped from tho English and American cruisers in African waters, is hard in deed, and the fear of u continued vigi lance over a Huet of thirty or forty, keeps the Cubans in a fever of excitement and fear. The Spanish navy, loo, have cap tured ono off Sagua lo Grande with five hundred negroes, and have received orders to keep a brighter lookout for the future, nnd not to sutler any more slavers to bo taken out of the Island. If they are to be captured, they had better bo captured by tho Spanish Gov ernment, for in this case tho Island de rives some benefit from the Bczulo, in asmuch ns they are distributed for t moderate head money among the plan ters and railroad contractors. The ow ners of tho vessels and cargoes now in Key West have sent over agents to see what may bo effected in the rescue or bribery line, but they have all returned without effecting anything, nnd gave but poor hopes of being able to do any thing with the Key Westers. If disease should break out among the negroes, and they should be sent to ono of the neighboring Keys, I have no doubt but that an attempt will bo made by the of Spaniards to run off with their rightful property. BQylf tho Democratic party has out lived its principles it is high time that, its toggery bo collected together, divid' ed out nnd the firm at once dissolved.— Memphis Ava. The Avalanche could just ns well hnvo left off the if. There is no sort of ques tion that “the Democratic party has o.ut- lived its principles.” But it has been so prodigal in its cxtrnvngnnce that its effects are not worth administering up on and dividing. Its “toggery” consists in several dilapidated platforms, nnd a garret full of cast off' clothes. Neither will be of any service to anybody hereafter—not oven to political anti quarians and paper-makers.—Nashville Patriot. _ jj©*Every mother nnd housekeeper must often not as a family physician in the numerous illnesses and accidents that occur among children and servants. For many of these coses, I have used Davis’ Fain Killer, and consider it an indispensable article in the medicine box. In diarrhea it has been used and effected euros. For cuts and bruises it has been invaluable.—N. Y. Exami ner. Bold by all medicine dealers. The Goose Question.—The following is taken from the seport of the proceefL ings of the Connecticut Legislature:— Bill to tax geese and baohalors taken up. Air. Harrison was opposed to the provision taxing bachelors. There was a tax already laid upon a goose, and any, man who had lived twenty-five.years without being married, oould be taxed under that section. The bill was post poned: Gen. Wm. Walker. The New York “Herald of the 18th instant, has the following in regard to the destination of General Wal kers It was mentioned some time since by telegraph that General Walker, with a party of officers, had left New Orleans in a sailing vessel for some point in Cen tral America, but tho fact elicited very little atten tion from the'public. It may be interesting to our readers to learn that it is now stated by parties who • are supposed to be well informed on the matter, that his destination is one of the Bay Islands which have been recently re-ceded by England to the republic of Honduras. We published a short time ago the fact that the people of Ruatan had protested against returning under the sway of the Honduras government so that they are at present, os it were, independent. Tho island populated by uliout four thousand jpeople of a mixed race, the Indian and West India negro preponderating. The probability is that Walker expects to create some kind of n government organization there, and thus obtain a foothold for himself somewhere in the Central Amerl can region, with a view to future ac< tion. Medical College of Alabama AT MOBILE. The lectures of this Institution will com mence the 14tb Nov. next. The Legislature of .the State appropriated fifty thousand dollars at its last session, for the benefit of the Collego. This donation has enabled the Trustees to erect a mngnifi- cent building complete in all its departments. The museum of the College has been se lected in Europo with great care, and is sce- onato none in the country. Thero are throe large Hospitals in Mobile free to. tho stu dents.
