Sight-Seeing Extraordinary.
While several gentlemen from Geor
gia, including three or four from Rome,
Were,a week or so since, traveling through
Canada, bent on seeing everything at all
wonderful, they entered a convent in
Montreal, and feasted their curiosity on
;the mysteries of Catholicism, when
their sympathetic hearts brought them
iarqund the count* 0 f- a little orphan boy
who was evidently suffering greatly,and
'apparently from measles. After com
miserating his condition for a few min*
: jutes, with mournful countenances and,
, perhaps, tearful eyes, one of them asked
an attendant “what was the matter with
him?” She replied immediately, “ema/(
ioxl” *
Those Kind-hearted gentlemen left

they will “never go there no more." '
, Blondin’s Last Performance.—The
receipt 5 Buffalo Commercial Advertiser thus de-
scribes the last performance of the lit
tle French Acrobat, at Niagara Falls:
n a few minutes the little m in was
"seen coming towards the American,
attached to a heavy lumbering cliuir.—
When about a third of the way out, lie
placed the chair upon the rope and
seated himself thereon, crossed his
legs, and gazed around with apparent
unconcern,. He then adjusted two legs
of tho chair on the cable, again sen ted
himself. Coming near to the American
shore, he again stopped and sat down:
and then got up and stood in the chair!
When we consideie l that this was done
on a single cable, stretched at a heiglu
of more than two liuiwred feet over one
of the most fearful chiisms and torrent-
in ‘•ho world, it seems absolutely mirac
ulous.

Narrow Escape from Fire.—About 8
o'clock on Wednesday night the house
■of W. T. Trammell, Esq., a mile and a
half from town, was saved by mere
chance almost from being burnt to the
ground. Mr. Trummell wasobsont from
homo, but ns soon as the alarm was giv
en, three or four gentlembn, spending
the evening at Dr. Miller’s, two or three
hundred yards off, rushed over and ex
tinguished the fire. It had burned a
Led and bedding in one of the upper
■rooms and through ■ tho wall. After
wards, upon opening a door to another
S mrtment they discovered a bed in that
so burning. Whether the beds were
it afire accidentally by the children,
ho had been playing in the upper sto-
f with candles, or designedly by others*
serves os a warning.

A Lapsus Linqua.—The Burlington

July says:
Once, when he spoke of the priva-

country—one who had to make his own
fences, and “split his own rails,” the in

jhearty and general round of aoclatna-

that his assembly in the main had their

Udolpho Wolfe and the Liquor
Trade.
This mcrchnnbis a public benefactor.
There is one spot in the lund, where
a man can go ami pm chase pure liquors
of any kiud or description. We dn
not intend to give an elaborate descrip
tion of Mr. Wolle’s extensive wuie
bouse, or the details of his enormous
business, although it will well repay any
stranger iu town to visit Nos. 18, “0 &
22 Beaver street. There we saw Liquors
and Wines in quantities quite startling.
A stock of Brandies, pure und choice,
valued ut (81o0 UUU) one hundred and
fifty thousand dollars. Wines of ail
the choicest vintage. Port, Maderiu,
Sherry, valued at (->>130,090) one* hun
dred ana thirty thousand dollars, im
ported by Mr. SVoll'e direct from Made-
ria, Portugal and Spain, and also from
the London docks. His. Schnapps
business bus increased, until now
liis sales amount to (180,000 doz.)
one hundred und eighty thousand
dozen of bottles of .Schnapps annually.
In fiveyeut's he will be equally success
ful with his Brandies und Wines.—
Heav’eu grant it may be so. for he is
doing a world of good. How many
thousands of our must clever men are
cut off annually by the poisonous bad
liquors 1 How many thousands of val
uable lives would have been saved, had
Mr. Wolfe commenced importing und
bottling pure Liquors and Wines years
ago? But it is not too late now. His
business merits the patronage of every
lover of his species. If ho only suc
ceeds in preventing the sale of one-
tenth^' the had liquors now sold, by
replacing it with his pure importations,
be will deserve the gratitude of man
kind.—New York Courier.

TRIC0PHER0US,
K EMPTON'S TRICOPHEROUS is
Medicated Compound for preserving,
restoring end boaulifying the Hair, for re
moving dandruff, and lor preventing the
hair irom falling out. It is compounded on
purely scientific principles, and is entirely
of-a vegetable character. It strengthens the
roots uf the hair by stimulating thu scalp,
cleanses the head, and as alt agreeable-acces
sory to the toilet is unsurpassed. In the
words of a poet, who has proved its excellent
and varied qualities, it may now be truly
said—
Behold a double charm, whose potent power,
Adds a uew grace to beauty’s -noiceet dower,
Bids her rich curls a silken lustre win,
Heals the torn flesh, and cools the burning
skin. .
The loosened hair, touohed by its balm takes
root,
And from the scalp new, living fibres shoot;
And look at woman—lo! each flower tress,
Shines as It
Smiling, she marks the change—her fears
are flown,
The crowning gift of nature is her own;
At morh and eve the liquid is applied,
The rich mass lengthens, and grows thick
beside,
She makes no secrot of the cause, and thus
Spreads the just fame of Kempton’s Tricp
phorpua.
