That paper says it is a mis- rc in the figures, which should have i $3,454,207, the value of slaves in 9, instead of $4,454,207. For 1860 it is $3,755,184, making an of $300,977, or equivalent to at four hundred and sixty-two slaves. ^ ^ A Capital Letter.—Those who can enjoy a good thing should not fail to the letter on the first page written , gentleman of this place, in reply no from a citizen of Cassvillo, ask. bis views upon the political ques. as of the day. Among hem are the two brick stores on Broad treet between Messrs. B. 8. Norton on and Mr. H. A. Smith—one a two nd the other a three story building ad another of two stories next door ove Messrs. J. E. Berry k Co. They > all we believe to be covered with Albert W.Httk. AUv«...His Resusci tation by the Electro Chemical Bath mssm&p* There is go,ft the fact that All ostensibly exOcuted-for pin loe’s Island, on £he 12th of last July, is still living,'though in a dangerous state, but likely to recover the ftul use of all his faculties and limbs. The sight of his left eye is gone, and his left arm and left leg continue paralysed; but apart from these injuries, he would appear to have suffered nothing, and his residence , at his sister’s house, in Poughkeepsie, has proved every way beneficial. It will be remembered that much comment was excited by the utterly fearless manner in which Hicks conduc ted himsolf.preVious to his execution.— He laughed at the idea of, the gallows, oral officer had part; and it is on record in the daily papers, that he was present at the exeoution. wearing his Deputy- Marshal’s badge, although no longor in the Marshal's force. It was also remarked at the time, that Ilioks was only nulled up at a distance of two and a half feet—utterly insuffi cient to break his neck—and that he was only allowed, to remain thirteen minutes hanging.' He was then cut down and pronounced dead, after which the body was immediately handed over to the care of Doctors J. T. Bell, and Henry D. O’Reilly, of Brooklyn. These gentlemen are losponsible for his resur rection, and tiie electvo-cheinioal bnth invented by Prof. Vergnes, was the im mediate instrument.—New York Leader, Saturday. Imperative business engagements revenled our lioaring the argument of I. U. Hill, Esq., yesterday, in the Choice cose, before the Supreme Court. The following, from the pen of an eminent member of tho Georgia Bar, shows what is thought of it by his legal brethren.— Atlanta American, 28th B. II. Hill, Esq. It lias been our lot, in days gone by, to hnve witnessed some of the most brilliant and successful efforts ever made in the Forum. But, in our judgment, we have seen none which have exceed ed the argument of Benjamin H. Hill, on yesterday, in the Supreme Court, in the Choice case. His speech embraced all the elements of power, of eloqueuee and compact reasoning. Thougli in personal appear ance frail and incapable of long endur ance. yet, for four hours and-a-half did Mr. Hill hold tiie unbroken attention of the Court, and a numerous and crowded auditory. And still, at tho closing of his speed), Mr. Hill neither betrayed exhaustion ofintelleot, or any apparent absence of physical strength. Thi* argument of Mr. Hill belongs to tiie highest order of "successful effort," and cannot fail to place him in .the very first rank of American Advocates. “26375ft” Atlanta, '28th August, 1860. Suspicious.—Wo have boon shown a private letter from a gentleman in Co lumbus, Mississippi, to a citizen of Ma con, which states that a man named John Kelley, was killed a short time since near Columbus, by one of his ne groes, who inflicted seven wounds on his body with a bowie knife. Tiie let ter also states that a planter residing near Columbus, Miss., undertook to whip one of his negroes n few days ago, and on stripping him found a largo dirk knife on his persoii. The plunter examined tiie other negroes on the place and found twenty of them armed with a similar weapon. It is supposed that these negroes have been armed by abolition emissaries, who are supposed to bo scattered over the South. * We are not inclined to create unnec essary alarm, but thftjecent discovery |of the Bohcmcs of theXbolitionists in Texas to incite the slaves to revolt, should cause our citizens to watoli clbsely the oonduot of their slaves.— Afacon Telegraph.
