From a notice in the Norfolk Her ald tve take the following; lie said that tills was his first visit to this city,, and ho lmd just been handed a slip from a newspaper in which two questions had been propounded to him, and although ho felt under no obliga tion, under the circumstances, to do so, still ho would answer them, but claimed at tlio stunc time that they should also be put to the candidate of the seces sionists and answered by him. These questions were: “If Abraham Lincoln he elected Pres ident of the United States, will the Southern States bo justifiod in seceding from tho Union f “If they secede from the Union upon tho inauguration of Abraham Lincoln, before he commits an overt act against their .Constitutionjtl rights, will you ad- viso or vindicate resistance by force to their' seoessioh ?” Ho eoipbatioaliy and unhesitatingly responded to, tho first in the negative.
