Rohe Market, Sept. 14.—There is but little cottoii coming in, and this of low grade—none classifying as high as Mid.- dling Fair—twenty bales hare been re. oeived during the past week and four teen only sold, 10 bales at 10 cts., and four at 8$ ots. Fair ■ cotton would com mand 10] cts. Good demand for wheat, corn and rye at the following prices: Wheat $1,50@§1,00. Seed rye $1,60, and corn $1,10. Flour at wholesale, $8,00 per barrel for extra family. Bacon—Hog-round, 15 i, clear sides, ^ 1G@17, hams 15, shoulders, 14 cts. Ga. & Ala. R. R.—The friends of this Road in progress, and which is ex tended from Rome Ga., to Jacksonville Ala. will be much gratified to learn of the rapid progress that is being made in the work. The grading is .completed to the river; the masonry nearly done for the bridge and the timbers all ready to complete the superstructure in a very short time. Between the river and Ce dar Creek, Mr. J. D. Gray the general contractor has three large gangs of hands now at work and already has a ^ large proportion of the lioavest grading done. Next week an adequate force will commence on the Cedar Creek bridge. Col. J. R. Towers is pushing on his contract with great energy. He has three gangs of hands and the grading of three sections now neatly complet ed. By an advertisement in another col umn it will be seen that the fourth en- stallment of ten per cent has been call ed in. There is now, so far as we can learn, no hesitation on the part of ma ny of the subscribers, to promptly pay theonstalhnent us called for, and the enterprise generally is in a wholesome condition and moving on as rapidly ns could be oxpected. Fine Machinery. We have had the pleasure of a walk through the large, new Carriage Factory of O. B. Eve. Wo were particularly pleas ed with the Machinery and many labor ta" vlngapplia-toes with which hcissupplicd. The.Planing Machine, Morticer, Tenon CuttVsr^Bearers, Rim Bender, and other machines are all admirably adapted to the work they.aro intended to do. Any one pleased with fine machinery can spend an hour in this shop very pleas- siintly. Tito indomitable energy and perseve rance of Mr, Eve commands commenda tion from all. May his success bo equal to his deservings. Why do They Slight Him t In all the notices of Breckinridge meetings we seo no announcement that Col. Lewis Tuntlin, the elector in this Dist rict, will speak. Can it be that.he is only needed for the same purpose that a seceder told a distinguished in dividual, in this town, ho was wanted for ? viz: to vote nnd not to speak t—or, as another has said, is he “only needed .to pay the Barbecue Bills ?” New Advertisements.—lie tbatmisses the New Advertisements looses much jpteresting reading and fails to keep himself “posted” in matters of- trade. We have not time to particularize, but cannot help calling attention to the card of Mr. J. R. Martin, lie will soon be prepared to supply Merchants with the very best fresh candies of his own manufacture. He offers a splendid assortment of confectionaries, fruits and nuts, Ac., Ac., at retail. Give him a call at C. A. Smith’s old stand. Dr. JUIIetf* Letter. the Bolting pMgkjf ©ft HlBeJq'.MrJ wrill be seeh that the Dr/has gone, over, horse, foOt'entf dragoAM to the-Mlters. The Bolting ot PSd the Dr. that he oould not help Bolting.— We suppose it .is Constitutional with the Dr. and in view of the necessity on him, from this cause, we are inclined to be charitable. To stand on the short log is repulsive to the Dr.’s whole nature- end as conclusive testimony in favor of the Dr. on this point, I refer to hit let. ter to Judge Lumpkin, on the subjeot of organizing a party of size, vitality arid patronage—and as a. proof that the Dr. bos been eminently successful in this business; I, for the present, barely ro«- fer to the Tuguloo Party, which was, if we recollect correctly, headed by a cra zy woman, who lived on Tugaloo River, and by some means escaped and got over to Athens, got into a row with Hoi- sty a Democratic Elector, and actually shot him, or shot at him. These were the Great General Principles of the Tuguloo Party, as I understood them. I suppose that the Dr.’s present success will only be equalled by the great suc cess of his Tugaloo Party. I have not time now to review the Dr.'s Letter. I will look it in the face in a few days. In the meantime I beg our friends abroad not to take down Bell and Everett, ns we are determined not to do it hereabouts, for the present. Pass it Around.—From the card of Messrs. M. S. Stetson A Co., whioh ap peared in our oolumns yesterday morn- -*mg, it seems that J. H. Torrey of Abing don, Massachusetts, is the sweet scent ed, christian-hearted individual whoen- gages himself in the deleotable business of circulating abolition documents through nests of -trunk) he sells to mer chants in the South. .. „ Brethren of the Southern press pass around the name of J. H. Torrey, of Abingdon, Massachusetts, and advise your readers not to deal with any mer chant, South or North, who hereafter deals with him—the aforesaid J. H.Tor- rey!—Mobile Mer.Oth inst.
