h. HID to Speak la Romc on
the 39th of September. .
We have been shown a . letter from.
Won. B. H. Hill addressed to the Exec
utive Committee of the Belkand Everett
club, from trttloh we take the following
oxtroct:/ > .
v< t haVe promised to. go to Knoxville
•cm the firth and on the 29 th (Saturday)
wilt come up and -give you a talk. I
owe an appointment to Rome, and. am.
willing to fill it on that day."
Every body knows what a talk from
Mr. Hill is, and every body in the sur
rounding country who can possibly do
so will come to hear him. Spread the
news far and wide. Such an opportuni
ty does not oiten present itself and will
not again during this canvass. We feel
very much like launching out iqto an
enthusiastic rallying exhortation, and
in feet we can scarcely repress it. But
there is no need Of it. Who has not
heard of Ben. Hill? Who does not
wish to hear him ? Who within thir
ty, br even forty miles of Romo, will
not come? Only let it. bo known and
we will have a tremendous crowd.
There will be a “Basket Dinner,” and
each one is invited to come prepared.

Goon for Saxe.—The Burlington (Vt)
Free Press publishes the following jeu
Esprit of the Douglas candidate for Gov
ernor of that State:
Governors Fletcher, Hall and Fair
banks happened to meet the other day,
and were jollied by Mr. Saxe. “Well,”
said some one “this seems to be a kind
of a gubernatorial convention; hero is
ar-Governor Fletcher, acfiny-Governor
Hall, future Governor Fairbanks, and
,” hesitating and looking at Mr.
Saxe, who finished the sentence with
“paulo-post future Governor Stixe. After
which the laugh came in.
A Breckinridge Man Endorsinu both
Bell and, Douglas.—The Hon. John
Kerr, of North Carolina, made a speech
at Richmond, Va., on the evening of
the 11th, in which he declared it was
ridiculous to accuse John Beil of un
soundness on the slavery question, and
asserted that it would be folly for the
Southern States to secede from the
Union in the event of Lincoln's elec
tion.
Mr. Kerr is a prominent Breckinridge
preliminary
groes implicated on the charge of con-*
templated insurrection, up to the pen
ning this article four have been com

are undergoing investigation.
The white man Stidham who is
