Reduced.
The Superintendent of the Rome
Railroad has reduced the Fare on his
road to one half the usual rates,to those
attending the great Mass Meeting here
on Saturday the 29th inst. It is ex

duction on the State road also.

The Douglas and Bell State Conven
tions meet at Sacramento to day. Efforts
are making for a fusion ticket, giving
each party two electors, after Utopian of
the fusion in New York.

have nominated candidates for the Leg
islature. All the Douglas candidates are
pledged to oppose the reelection of Sen
ator Gwin. The Breckinridge candidates
are uninstractcd.
Proposals for building the foundation
and basement story of the State Capitol
at Sacramento have been opened. The
highest bid was $130,000, and the low

ded on Sunday night at Rush’s Chap
el in this county. Forty-one persons
connected themselves with the Metho-

at Cedartown, on Tuesday, Oct. 2nd,

Sick- Headache.—It is stated that two
hanging of a ono legged school master,
at Ioni P. O., Anderson county, on tho
17th inst. 'lie was tried by the vigi
lance committee and it was conclusively
proved upon him that he had advised
the negroes to go on burning and
stealing. He was stretched to a limb.
The Advocate gives an account of the
hanging of a man named Staton in that
county the other day for inciting insur
rections., This is the third in Andcrsou
county.

The story that a clerk of the superior

fornia, was very freely circulated yester
day. It is alleged that he drew 15,000
from the bank, leaving his wife and

debt for rent. His must have been a
strange infatuation, for his wife is said
to be a moat estimable lady to whom
he appeared to be devotodly attached,
while his worldly oireumstanoes were
all that oould be desired, his situation
’’feeing worth 3,500 a year.
