AVe would oall the attention of our readers, especially that of Senators and Representatives in the State Legislature to the report of Gen. Sanford published tn this paper. The right spirit now prevails among the people, and if the Legislature will do its duty, as wc pre sume i« will, Georgia, in the “volunteer system,” may'soon have an efficient military force sufficient for all ordinary purposes. Provision should be made at the'very first of the session : to supply all companies • organized.with, suitable Arms., { ‘ ; /' / . • Tho “Cherokee Artillery’’ not? organ, ized in this plaoaond uniformed, are, together with many other companies' scattered over the State in the same sit uation, suffering materially for the want of Arms. A company newly or ganized cannot brook long delay in the reception of its arms without experienc ing material detriment. The Protracted Meeting,—At tho Methodist church in this place is still going on. It will probably be contin cd through this week. Prayer meeting at 9 o’clock in tho morning and preach ing at 7 o’clock nt night. All persons ^are invited to attend. JtQrDa. Ryehson preached in this place last Sunday. Blurclary.—Tho Book store of Hen. ry A. Smith was broken into on last Sunday night while the clerks were gone to church and about seventy dol lars stolen from tho money drawei.— Entrance was made shrough the back window but the thieves went out at the front door. Another Revolutionary Soldier Gone.—Wo learn that Mr. John Homes, of Murry county, Ga., died on Tuesday morning last, at tho advanced age of 130. JIg fought through the revolu tionary war, and could tell many thrill ing incidents connected with that mem orable contest, lie was one of the first settlers of this country, having been a residsnt of the above county for the ldst twenty or thirty years. And we are now pre pared to give a bettor bargain than ever, wc thought wo should. If no sale is inode before the time specified, we will bo glad to gel a partner, with a small amount of capital, who is oompetent to assume the entire care and burden of the mechanical, department of the office. Address L. W. F. ANDREWS, Maeon Ga. / A Move in rna Right Direction.— We learn from one of oar Alabama exchan ges that at a recent Mass Mooting of the Union party in that State, the Bell and Everett Electors were instructed, in ‘"■eoso of their election* to oast the vote of Alabama for tho man moat likely to defeat Lincoln. This is only another instance of the patriotic generosity that everywhere sotuates the Bell and Ever ett party.
