The prospects for good crops is very
llattcring indeed. The April showers
of tlic olden time have returned, and
vegetation is fresh and thriving in all

lay up a surplus of provisions, so that
if the war becomes general, and we
have to leave our families to drive off

them the means of subsistence. Re
member also that our Western supply
of bacou will be, to a great extent, cut

Drowned.—A negro boy, belonging
to Col. W. S. Cothran, was paddling
about in a batfeau, on Sunday evening,
near the steamboat landing in the Eto
wah river, and falling in was drowned.
Efforts were made to recover the tody,
but were uot successful until the nuxi
morning, when it was taken up a
short distance from where he sank.
SaTltisa matter beyond doubt that
(len. Scott lias not resigned. Alas! how
mighty has, fallen. How contemp
tible the old Hero appoars, playing
t iady for the mongrel pack that is now
disgracing Wusington, and under the
idea of serving bis country, to lead the
contemptible minions of a foul oligar
chy, against his own brethren. But he
turned the guns of Fort Monroe against
his mother-land some months ago. Let
his name ever coupled with the traitors
of deepest dye—Judas—Arnold—Scott.
taf" Major Mark A. Cooper, says tho

Iron Works Co., a heavy contract from
the C. S. Government, and he will at
smee commence the manufacture of
cannon, mortars, balls, and other muni
tions of war on a large scale.
®S»“The eeoession feeling is strong in

necessary. Gov. Wise replied: “Come
