JL having determined to discontinue thin
Department of their service, the undersigned,
who has been tho late Forwarding Agent of
the Company for the last four years, has as
sociated with him, the Chief Clerk in tho
Department, and under the name of Gantt A
Stoset, will continue to receive and forward
such articles as may be consigned to his care.
He trusts, by strict personal attention to ob
tain a very liboral share of the business of
the Department.
Parties are reminded that all goods reach
ing this point from points beyond the Con
federate States of America, must be entered
at the Custom House; and that duties are
payable on such as were not purchased on
or before the 28th of February last, and la
den on ship board on or before the 15/A of
March instsave such as are on th® Free
Lists.
It is, therefore, necessary that remittances
be made to pay the duties, where duties arc
payable, nnd. in all cases, to cover the expense
of Custom House entry, whether the noods are
free or not. Prompt compliance will prevent
delay and expense, as all articles not entered
and permitted will be stored by the Custom
House officers.
The South Carolina Railroad Company
will advance, as heretofore, tho charges of
Freight, Drayago aud Wharfage: but not the
expenses connected with the Custom House.
Rates of charging for forwarding will be
very moderate, ana may bo had on applica
tion to Gantt A Stoucy, to whom all business
communications should bo addressed.
