jQty- Our public affairs, to outward
appearances, seem to bo decidly quiet.
We suppose it is the calm that immedi
ately precedes the storm. The clans
,3e gathering to the battle. The storm
must soon burst in its wild fury, and
Northern legions, like the waves of tho
sea, be burled upon us in all the power
of hate and revenge. But let every
Southron feel that his own right arm,
sustained by the Almighty power must
be a part of tho rock on which this trc-
dous wave must be shattered to atoms.
Let eacli feel that

On Tuesday night last Vice-President
Stephens made a short speech, at Atlan
ta, in which he said, as reported by
the Confederacy:
A general opinion prevails (hat Wash
ington City issoon to be attacked. On
this subject l can only say, our object is
j . aoe. We wish no aggressions on one's
i-ights, and will make none. But if
Maryland secedes, the District of Col
umbia will fall to her by reversionary
right—the same as Sumter to South
Oirolina—Pulaski to Georgia, and Pick
ens to Florida. Wlten we have the
right, we will demand (lie surrender of
Washington, just as we did hi the ntliei
o se, and will inforce our den a ds at
every hazard, and at whatever cost.
And here let me say that, our policy
and conduct from tho first has been
light, and shall be to the last. T glory
jjj this consciousness of our rectitude.
Crawfordsvii.lf., Ga.—On Monday
last, a meeting was held in this place
— a company raised—a flag made by the
ladies in two hours, and $2,200 raised
to equip the soldiers, .and to take care
of their needy families 1 So says Mr
Stephens.*
New York Moucy Market.
The Journal o! Commerce gives tho
blowing account of the New York
Money Market up to the 23th itist.;
There is too much excitement in the
market to-day for sober business, and
it is not easy to negotiate fresh trans
actions of any description.
Capital is less freely offered for any
sort of security, ami there is a. growing
uneasiness in financial circles.
Wo called attention in yesterday’s
money market to the notice issued by
the Cnited States District Attorney to
The Banks holding Southern balances,
forbidding them under penalty of a
eprosecution for treason, “to transmit in
•coin or bullion, or by letters of credit
or draft, or in any other way, directly
or indirectly, any moneys to banks or
individuals of the Southern seceded
•States.” The official notice sent to us
was also printed under the proper head.
To-day this order has been officially
revoked by the same authority that
issued it, so that the matter stands as
before. It would be impossible, we
suppose, to transmit any coin or other
valuables to tho South, even if any one
was disposed to such an act, for want
of a safe and reliable carriage, the Ex
press Companies having declined all
requests for suclt service.
Bacon Advancing in Western Mar-
t ETs.—We are permitted to copy tho
(Rowing extract frem a business letter
received in this city yesterday, dated
Louisville, April 29:
There is great excitement in the Ba
con market. I bought here yesterday
by telegraph, at 13c. for clear sides.
The market was swept at that. It will
open to-morrow, I think, at lac. 1

TT is much to be regretted that while in
_L the enjoyment of health so little atten
tion is paid by many, to the preservation of
so inestimable a blessing. Luxurious living,
habits of indolence, exposure to sudden
changes of temperature, and neglect of tho
premonitory symptoms of disease; are the
precursors of tunny fatal maladies. Taken
upon tho first indication of nil attack, if any
thing will roliove the sufferer, purify tho

roughly renovote the system, it is Sand s Sar
