the intelligence that the enemy, esti
mated at 600 strong, were on Thurs-
day evo at Portersvillo, four or five
miles this side of Lebanon, DoKalb co.,
Ala. Portorsville is forty-five miles
from Rome. Tiierc is a rumor that our
piokets were attacked last night at
Weaver’s Mills, four or five miles below
Alpine. We hope ample preparations
will be made to givo this party a suits

The Enemy at Larkin’s Ferry.

has been confirmed. Their supposed ob
ject is to establish a base, of supplies for
tho Spring campaign. Larkin’s Ferry
is twenty-two miles above Guntersville,
and about ninety miles from Rome.—
Wo hope.that a sufficient cavalry fordo
will be sent to that vicinity to capture
at least their foraging parties.

Section 1st, Tho General Assembly of

person whoshull here after conceal a de
serter from tlie Army or Navy of tho
Confederate Stntes, or from tlie Militia
or State forces of this State, while in

serter, shall be guilty of a misdemean

punished by Sues or ' imprisonment in
