THE IIKART.’’
The young corn is how all about up
in Barbour county, and is looking
well on uplands.
In Selina, the Southern Hotel has
had a taste of the Civil Rights bill —
the “tnan and brother" retired a little
the worse for wear.
On the Twenty-sixth, thousands will
go to the Magnolia cemetery, and strew
flowers on the mounds that cover the
ashes of our Confederate dead.—Mobile
fl'egister.
A gentleman of this county, says the
Eufaula limes, showed us on Saturday
last, some stalkR of green rye taken
from his patch that morning, that were
fully six feet high.
Says the Eufnula Times ot yesterday
morning: There was a killing frost all
through this section on Sunday'.morning.
The young cotton corn, potatoes, and
garden vegetables generally, suffered
badly.
The Mongomery Advertiser of Sunday 11
says: “On Friday, April 9th, an old pcnrcJ
negro woman was buried in this city,
named Judy Bibb, aged, as the burial
cetificate stated, 110 years and C
months.”
The Montgomery State Journal re
ports: “The high waters in the Coosa
river have destroyed nearly half of the
small grain which was planted in the
bottom land. The heavy rains have
caused the destruction of a great deni
of grain in the low land all over the
State.”
The grand jury of Shelby have found
true bills against James Baxley and
Jasper Cokey, whites, and McAfee,
negro, charged with the IVuuxahatohie
bridge disaster, on the Selma, Rome &
Dalton Railroad, last September.
During last week’s term of the City
Court of Montgomery, thirteen persons
were sentenced to various torms in the
ponitentiary, and sixteen to terms of
hard labor for the county. One of
them was for muider, and eleven for
burglary.

A Chattanooga correspondent of the
Cincinnati. Enquirer closes an account
of a lengthy tour over the South with
the following remarks:
“After rambling through Tennessee,
Mississippi, Georgia, Alabama’ and
talking with State officers and politi
cians, I found public sentiment about
equally divided in the house between
Thurman and Hendricks for the Presi
dency! Thurman is a favorite in Mis
sissippi, and the Alabama Democracy,
headed by Gov. Houston, are in favor
ot' Gov. Hendricks. The general pray
er of the Southern people is “ Any man,
0 Lord, just so he is from the West.
God deliver us from an Eastern man.”
. In this the Enquirer correspondent is
doing the people of Alabama great in
justice. The Democrats of this State
are not sectional. Their patriotism
recognises no points of the compass,
and they have as high regard for iheir
Democratic friends of tho East as for
those in the West. There is time
enough to discuss these matters here
after. While tho Democrats of this
State will cheerfully support Mr. Hen
dricks or Mr. Thurman, in case either
is nominated, they stand equally ready
and willing to do their best in support
of any other Democrat, come from what
quarter he may, who receives the nom
ination. We should like to know
whether tire Enquirer, or its correspond
ent, is friendly to Mr. Hendricks and
M r. Thurman. A cam .id answer might
throw some light on the above quoted
paragraph.—Montgomery Advertiser.

A New Party.
The Chicaga Times has information
of a new party, now brooding in secre-
sy, to be sprung upon tho country
with a grand flourish of trumpets at
Cincinnatti next September. It is to be
callled the National Industrial, but
its platform is not yet defined or de
finable, although the laboring element
is expected to furnish the vote3 while
pleonastic theorists will furnish the
principles. A national invitation com
mittee has been appointed, by them
selves or somebody else, with head
quarters at No. 0 l’ark Place, New
York, and Horace II. Day, the Good
year rubber patent miflionarie,' ap
pears to be chairman. The number
who are “going it blind” on the new
movement is said to be astonishing.
The element of secresy takes, and the
absence of a delinito platform makes
every hobbyrider happy in anticipa
tion of a national opportunity to von
tilatb his pet theories. The prepara
tions are systematic enough, howes’er,
to ensure a rare collection of anthro
pological specimens at Cincinnati next

The Third Term.—Vice-President
Wilson is reported to have said he does
not know a man in Massachusetts who is
in favor of electing Pressdent Grant for
a third term. He might have gone a
little further and said that he never met
an intelligent man who really believed
that the President wants a third term
or would accept it if it were offered to
him. We defy tho journals that are
harping upon this subject to produce
one word or the record of one action,
on tho part of President Grant or any
one properly authorized to represent
him, which indicates in the slightest
degree that he has such aspirations. If
any of these loud talkers have
possession of arty such evidence, let
them produce it now or shut up.—Phil-

^ Debt of Savannah.—The debt of
Savannah is 83,000,140, the annual in
terest on which amounts to $252,042.
A correspondent of the News regards
this as burdensorao, and fears financial
embarrassment in the future. The
of insurance in that city are
. .00,000 a year. That would pay the
whole debt in fifteen years. He therefore
wants the city to become the insurer of

Dear Sir : Your medicines, Gulden Medi
cal Discovery, Dr. Snges Catarrh Remedy,
Imro proved of (he greatest service 10 me.
Six months ago no one thought that I eould
pbisiblv live long. I hud a complication ol
diseases—scrofula, manifesting itself in erup
tions and gre t blotches on my hund that
made such sores that 1 co t.d not hnve my
hnir onmbed without causing me much sulf--r
ing : ulso causing swollen glands, tonsils en
large I enlarged or ‘thick neck." and hug-
nnd numerous boil*. 1 also suffered from u
terrible Chronic Catarrh and in fa t 1 wus
so diseased tlrnf life was a burden lo me. I
hud tried many doctors with r.o benefit, i
finally procured nne-hnlf dozen bottles ol
your Golden Medical Discovery and one
dozen Snge’sC'titnrrli Remedy nnd commenced
their use. At first I was badly discouraged,
but after taking fuur bottles of the Discovery
1 began to improve, and when I liad taken
the remaining I was well. In addition to the
use of Discovery I applied a solution of Iodine
to the Goitre or thick neck, as you advise in
plilet wrapping, nnd it entirely disap-
, -cd. Your Discovery is certainly the
most wonderful blood medicine ever invented.
I thank God and you, from the depths of my
heart, for the great good it has done me.
Very gratefully,
Mrs. L. Cuaffee.
Most medicines which are advertised ns
hlood purifiers and liver medicines contain
either mercury, in some form, or potassium
and iodine variously combined. All ot these
ngents have strong tendency to break down
the blocd corpuscles, and debilitate and
otherwise permanently injuro the human
system, and should therefore he discarded.
Dr. Pierce’s Golden Medical Discovery, on
the other hand, being composed of the fluid
extracts of native plants, bul ks and roots, will
in no case produce injury, its effects being
strengthen ing nnd curative only. .Snrsapa
rilla, which used to enjoy quite a reputation
as a blood purifier, is ti remedy of thirty
years ago, and may well give place, ns it is
doing, to the more positivo nnd valuable
vegetal)'c alternatives which later medical
investigation and discovery has brought to
light. In Scrofula or King’s Evil, White
Swellings, Ulcers, Erysipelas, Swelled Neck,
Goitre, Scrofulous Inflamma 1 ions, Indolent,
Inflammation, Mercurial Affections, Old
Sores, Eruptions of tho Skin nnd Sore Eyes
as in all other blood diseases Dr. Pierce’s
Golden Medical Discovery has shown its great
remedial powers, curing the most obstinate
and intractable cases. Sold by all dealers
