Hog Cholera Remedy.
An “Old Hog-Raiser” writes to the
Rural Worldas follows: “Having seen
many recipes for hog cholera, 1 propose
giving one that has never been known
to fail when properly administered. 1
would advise every reader of your in
teresting paper to carefully preserve
this one, as 1 and several of my neigh
bors liavo ourgd hogs after they were
past eating food, and were purging and
vomiting severely, by giving the medi
cine according to the following direc
tions. Go to the druggist and order
the following prescription : Madder,
resin, powdered sulphur, saltpeter,
each 1 lb., copperas, black antimony,
arsenic, each 1 lb.; powdered asafretida,
i lb.
“Directions—Pulverize and mix we
tlie ingredients; then add one-third of
this quantity of salt and ns much wood
or coal ashes as there is of the com
pound. Dose—Ono tablespoon ful to
eacli hog twice a day when affected.
When tho hog begins to mend so ns to
eat his food,, give one tablespoonful
once a day for a week, then once a week
for a month as a preventive. In giving
the.medicineitis a good plan to sepa
rate sick hogs from the well ones and
put the sick ones in a dry, close pen,
and let them remain from four to six
hours, without water; then give the
medicine in clear, cold water. The
hogs will usually eat the medicine in
wheat bran or ground feed of any
kind.”
A Wise Man.—We heard of a man
not far from Mountville tho other day
who informed a corn buyer that ho
was feeding his Btock on corn raised in
1872. This man has cribs of corn pro
duced in 1873 and 1874 yet untouched.
Fodder he has in abundance whioh
lie sells to those who raise large crops
of cotton at the astonishingly low
price of two dollars per hundred.
The old gentlemen is represented as
a wood sawyer when a long-faced
cotton planter comes along and begs
for a little corn and fodder on a credit,
pegging away at the shoe ho happens
to be repairing with the utmost sanq
froid. Go it, old man, and mock at the
calamity of these cotton planting, corn
buying gentry, and make them pay
their money for your corn and forage.
Experience keeps a dear school, but some
folks will learn in no other.—Greenville
Vindicator.
In liomiE Trouble.—The Charleston
News and Courier of yesterday says:
Aaron Alpoora Bradley, dubbed by
the Savannahians tne ‘Wahoo of the
Ogeechee,’ is again in jail to answer a
charge of peijnry upon an affidavit of
Trial Justice Levy. Bradley has scarcely
been at large two weeks since his in
carceration for destroying a record of
ex-Trial Justice Dover’s office, and as
it will be remembored, sned for redress
againsthis prosecutors before tho United
States Commissioner, claiming that his
rights under the civil rights bill had
been violated. The potition was treated
with silent contempt, and Bradley will
have to meet the enemy on a stronger
ground this time. lie will have ample
time in jail, however, to prepare his
lino of attack.”
Conferring the Berijtta on Car
dinal McCloskey.—It is now stated by
authority that the ceremony of imposing
thebereUa'upou Cardinal McCloskey, will
take place in the Cathedral in New York
Tuesaay next, tho 27th inst, The com
mittee for distributing the tickets began
their work yesterday, and will continue
every day until all tho invitations have
been sent out The tickets are printed
in purple and the eoat-of-arms in car
mine. In addition to Bomo forty arch
bishops and bishops, and about 1,200
priests, it is expected the President and
Cabinet will be present; also Gov. Tildcu
and stuff ami the municipal officers of the
city. The Papal Embassadors leave to
day for a trip to Baltimore and the semi
nary of Mount St. Mary’s at Emmetts-

Bibb County Schools.—Wo give a
brief synopsis of what lias been nnd
will be done this year in the Bibb
county ‘schools. The pupils enrolled
up to the end of March, are whites, 1,-
553; blacks, 1,520—total, 3,073. The
expense of maintaining these schools
will be about 832,COO of the amount
827,430 will constitute the gross
salaries of teachers, the remaind
er in furnishing and fitting up schools.
The cost per pupil will be about ten
dollars a year. All applicants have
been provided for except about thirty
of the schools.
Another candidate for Governor is
reported in the field. A correspondent
of thT Atlanta Herald states that the
name of Hon. Thomas J. Simmons is
presented by his friends. Mr. Simmons
was Chairman of the famous Bond
Committee of 1872 and is now Presi
dent of the Georgia Senate. He has
many friends and will doubtless be a
formidable candidate. Tile score now
stands as follows: Fulton—Colquitt,
James, Gartrell, Hammcnd, 4; Bibb—
Hardeman, Bacon, Simmons, 3; Mus
cogee—Smith, 1; Bartow—Wofford, 1;
Thomas— McIntyre, 1; total, 10.
We met a curiousity in Blakely dur
ing court week—a gentleman at pres
ent a citizen of our county, and fully
fifty years of age, who does not know
tho taste of liquor, has never taken a
chew of tobacco nor smoked a cigar.
He has raised a family of four boys,
all grown and equally abstemious with
their father. He has also raised a
daughter who has never tasted snuff,
and who married a man who knows
not the taste of whiskey or tobacco.
This is no fish story.—Blakely News.
It is said that the son-in-law of Jr.~.
W. Forney, of the Philadelphia Press,
lias gone to Europe, where Forney now
is, beating with him the terms of a
treaty of peace between Simon Came
ron and Forney. If Forney ratifies
the treaty then both Cameron and he
.ire to set about bringing Pennsylva
nia to the support of Grant for a third
term.

Dear Sir : Your madiciucs, tioldeir Mcdi
cul Discovery, Dr. Hugos Catarrh Koiuody,
have proved of the greatest service to me.
Six months ago no one thought that I could
possibly live long. I had a complication ol
diseases — scrofula, tnuniicsling itself in orti|
tious and greit blotches oil my head that
made such sores that I coald not have my
hair combed without causing me much suffer
ing ; also causing swollen glands, tonsils cn
large l, enlarged or "thick neck,’’ and large
and numerous boils. I also ruflerod from a
terrible Chronic Catarrh, and in fa t 1 was
so diseased thnt life was u burden 10 me. 1
had tried many duetora with no benefit. I
tinullv procured one-half dozen bottles of
yonr Golden Medina! Discovery and one
dozen Snge’sCntnrrh Itemedy and eioomcneeu
their use. At first I was badly discouraged,
hut after taking four bottles of tho Discovery
I began to improve, and when Hind taken
the remaining 1 was mil. In addition to the
use of Discovery 1 applied a solution of Iodine
to tho Goitre or thick nock, ns you advise in
pamphlet wrapping, and it entirely disap
peared. Your Discovery is certainly the
most wonderftd blood medicine ever invented.
I thank God nnd you, from the depths of my
heart, for the great good it has done me.
Very gratefully,
Mrs. L. Chaffee.
Most medicines which are advertised as
blood purifiers and liver medicines contain
cither mercury, in some lorm, or potassium
and iodine variously combined. All ot these
agents have strong tendency to break down
the blood corpuscles, nnd debilitate nnd
otherwise permanently injuro tho human
syBtem, and should therefore lie discarded.
Dr. Pierce’s Golden Medical Discovery, on
the other hand, being composed of the fluid
extracts of native plants, barks and roots, will
in no case produce injury, its effects being
strengthening anil curative only. Snrsnpa
rilla, which used to enjoy quite a roputatior
ns a blood purifier, is a remedy of thirty
years ago, and may well givo plane, ns it is
doing, to the tnoro positive nnd vnlunblc
vegetable alternatives which Inter medical
investigation nnd disoovery hns brought to
light. In Scrofula or King’s Evil, White
Swellings, Ulcers, Erysipelas, Swelled Neck,
Goitre, Scrofulous Inflammations, Indolent
Inflammation, Mercurial Affections, Old
Sores, Eruptions of the Skin nnd Sore Eyes
ns in till other blood diseases Dr. l’ierce’s
Golden Medical Discovery has shown its great
remedial powers, curing tho most obstinate
and intrnctablo cases. Sold by all dealers
