Tho Albany News says that the crops
in. Southwestern Georgia are unques
tionably injured by the "cold nights
* and nipping frosts bf the' past week.
Cotton in low, damp places is dead,
and so is corn; but these places con
stitute only a limited per centuge of
the crops, and it is hoped that there
will be no necessity for extensive re
planting. The entire crops have been
made sick, however, and it is folly to
suppose that full harvests can be pro
duced from such a beginning. ■

who is between 90 and 100 years old, has
corn and bacon to sell eviry year, does
, , ngt owe a dollar, and has three hundred
dollars out' a't interest; all made upon
poor laud, and since the war. Her cart
was in town on Tuesday last with corn

fellpWB standing on the corner, arguing
that farming won’t pay unless we had
better labor.

M anuring and preparing seeds before planting iias been practiced
for many centuries, but in the most crude and impracticable manner, all resorting to first
saturating with water, then rolling in Liino,,Athes, or kindred substances. Their partial fiilnres
resulted from their non-adhesive properties—tho wator having none—aud the preparations fell
and crumbled from off tho seeds. Tho great Liebig had often referred and spoken of tho subject
that tho day would yet come when a Buflic.eHt quantity of food could bo ma.lo to adhere to each
aeed, sufficient for its growth and development, so powerful and yet so mild as not to injure the
germinating powers of the tender sood. Two years ago I introduced a Mucdage, and, aUhuughnot
yet claiming a standard of perfection, sufficient ovidcnco is producod that a rapid stride has been
made in this great field of fciencc. Thirty-jix hundred farmers and planters havo now used
it, and, with few exceptions, thoy pronounqo it a success for what it claims to accomplish, three-
fourths of which aro ordering a second timo. This ye.ir 4 it* still highly improved—its adhesno
and other properties much strengthened. Seeds aro not steeped in this preparation as in tho old
waj. They are merely coated by pouring tl^o Mucilage over them, then rolled in Wood Ashes
and Rich Dry Eurth, Gypsum or Bono Dust, which adhering to o \ch seed with such tcuncity as to
passthrough planting machines without filling oft'. It prevents Blight, Fungus, Bust, Birds and

it- In several experiments whoro Potatoes, Cotton and Corn were rolled in a mixture of
onc-ha’f Gypsum end one-half pure Bono Meal, after the Mucilage was applied, an increased
yield of 10 to 20 per cent, was obtained over th iso not so treated.
JSSr* It has been discovered by sevoral of the truck farmers in Christ Churcn Parish, that when
a solution of this Mucilage is poured in a circle around a Cabbage or Tomato plant, it is a certain
preventive against the destruction of the Cut Worm, and at the same timo helps to invigorate am
