Curious Trees.
India-Rubber Tree—The Indian rub
ber tree is a nativo of South America.
Guava Tree—The guava tree, from
the fruit of which the delicious guava
jelly is made, is a native of the Indies.
Tallow„ Tree—In Malabar, a tree
effifjftmej,fellow tree grows; from the
Beed of it, wnen boiled, ie procured a
fircnifeltow which makes excellent can
dles. *
Batter Tree—This singular tree was,
a nice butter, which will keep a year.
Life T^ee—There is a singular tree in
Jamaclft called the Life tree whose
leaves grow even when severed from
the plant. It is impossible to kill i‘,
save by fire.
Banyan Tre«—The banyan tree is a

in Sicily and Calabria. In Augusfthe
tree is tapped, and the sap flows out,
after which it hardens by evaporation,
and the manna is left. It is of a sweet
but nauseating taste,

quently spoken of in the Bible thun the
fig tree, and a common cry even now in
the streets of Cairo, in‘Egypt, is “In
the name of the prophet, figB.” A cry
almost nniversally used by the venders

Milk Tree—The milk tree is a native
of South America. Its fruit is about
the size of a small apple, but tbe milk
is the greatest wonder, which is pro
cured by making notches through the

Traveler’s Tree—A tree called the
traveler’s tree, of Madagascar, yields a

Sorrowful Tree—The Sortowful tree
is found in the Island of Goa,near Bom-
flowerswffcre to be seen, but soon after
it is covered with them, which close

a fragrant^giprand blpssoms at night
the year round.'

leaves. By making incisions in its
trunk milk oozes out, which is tolerably
thick and of an agreeably balmy smell.
