Moved — Mrs. Perryman has recently
moved her large and elegant stock of milli
nery goods to her new and cosy little store
room on Thompson st., nearly opposite
Cheney’s brick building, where she is pre o
pared to please ail who may desire goods in
her line. Mrs. Perryman is assisted by
Mrs. Carrie E. Payne, who has quite a lnrge
experience in such business. Mrs. Payne
is the sole agent at this place for the cele

Ballou’s Magazine f r July.— Hot
weather is upon us. Excursions and recrea
tions are now in order, and to those who
contemplate a ride by rail or steamer xve
would recommend Ballou’s Magazine as the
one to take to relieve the monotony of a
journey. It is full of light reading, just
such as a>l must fancy. In the July num
ber we notice some thirty different articles,
besides illustrations and humorous matter.
Ir is the magneine to interest, and can he
found all over the country. Every one has
a kind word f«»r Ballou’s. Puplished by
Thomas Jt Talbot, 63 Congress Srreet. Bos
ton, at 15 cents single copies, or $1.50 ptr
year. Just try it ooee.
Haying not ced sum ar statements by the
press, of the prosperous c<u dition of their
counties we take special pleasure in men
tioning a few unvarnished facts in regard
to Upson. We are not actuated by any
boasting spirit, but simply do it because we
think few c 'Unties under the same circum
stances could n«*w show the same record.
Notwithstanding Thomas ton had the
misfortune to be burned almost entirely
down before the war and again during the
war ; notwithstanding she has been partial
ly burned down twice since the war. she is
yet alive, with the spirit of industry, enter*
prise and progress ns her chief aim, seeming
to defy the torch of the iucenuiary and even
the Fates themselves.
The expenses of Upson are perhaps great
er in proportion to her area and population
than most c<.unties. She has twenty expen
sive bridges to keep up. All of them at
this time are under good repair. She has
a nice and very respectable Courthouse,
recently repaired and washed over with
something white inside. All of her debts
have been liquidated and she now boasts of
mote money in ber Treasury than it would
take to redeem every dollar of her local
circulation.
The prosperous financial status of the
county cannot be attributed entirely to the
superior wealth of the county, but princi
pally to the'wise and judicious management
of its Ordinary,- Wro. A. C"bb, who has
sided this very responsible office for twenty
years, with superlative credit to himself,
ample satisfaction to his constituents and
great benefit to the county.
We learn from a reliable and aged citi
zen, that be saw « few days since four
generations of one family together, a seene
seld m witnessed. We are personally ac
quainted with one who# if he can not have
the pleasure ot viewing so great a number
of generations, can b<>a£st of the largest
third, if his second, which is now eighteen
in number, multiply as he has done.
Owing to the immense quantity of rain
during the'past two weeks the farmers are
behind with their crops. Toe corn crop is
{.Hiking well, growing fast and bids fair to
yield an abandonee. Cotton needs sympa
thy and labor as there is a death struggle
between it and the grass. The wheat crop
is scarcely an average cf'»p.
Upson can boast . f ner enterprising men,
her new intentions, het breaking the ranks
of Radicalism —electing one of her ablest
Bong to represent her in the next Genera!
Assembly, and what is of the greatest im
portance to.us, of ber many and pretty
yotfng ladies.
