any g . and citizen with pleasure. We are
giad to announce to the many friends and
acquaintances nfCapt. J. A. Cotten, that he
has severed his connection with Atlanta,

favoring Th maston with the light of h?s
countenance. The Capt. will be found
ready, willing, able, and desirous of attend

is needless for us to speak of his merits ns
an Attorney and Councillor, as the people

With the extensive knowledge and practice
of law, bef.re leaving Th"inaston and eigh

had thought to give him a call, if the XV.
amendment proved litigious.
Wtten we went to press last week the
District Meeting was still in progress.
S *»urdav and Sunday both brought a large
and appreciative audience and the Ministers
labored faithfully and zealously to avert
the tide of sin and to cause all who were
sailing in iniquity and moral darkness to
/change and steer for the haven of ete r nal
life. The Conference closing, the presiding
Elder and most of the ministers left for
home. The meeting was protracted and
the preachi g transferred from the arbor to
the church on Monday. During the first
three or four days we were inclined to think
there was a coldness or indifference mani
fested toward the meeting, but we are glad
to see since then quite a Teactinn. The
meeting has been well attended during the
whole week by large and appreciative
audiences. As we go to press the meet
ing continues with the prospect of holding
on for some time yet. May it result in
much good and be long remembered.
While we are t«>M by the old maxim,
“that there is more pleasure rn giving than
receiving and nf *fte same time believe that
it applies chi* fly to medicine, ki<ks and
advice, we are compelled iti beha sos the
prosperity of our business and tor the
benefit of those who like to rend the Herald
(and we think they are a g *«>dly number),
to ask the young ladies who hold Cupids
bo#, and are hurling arrows at susceptible
heafts, to be very careful and a little spar
