Hr nn oversight we failed in our la«t

Dr. T. R Kendall, to the Sabbath Schools.
The subject, “Prayer/* was a happy se

The schools w uld be much benefited by a
frequent address from the Doctor.
fmc WbaTiier— Sunday n ght last the
rain fell in torrents and the wind blew a
perfect hurricane. M nduy morning it
clear and off, but toward night the weather
became clear and cold—so cold that fears
were entertained of a frost. A stiff wind
sprang up however, and the dinger wa*

Postponement —We are requested to
state that the n*xt metting of the L <dge of
Good Templar* will be held at the usuaj
place on W ednesday, May Ist. This post
ponement is rendered nects-ary by the
absence ot Rev. Mr. Stout, who will be in
Macon attcudi* g the Annual B >ptist Con

Danger us Place. —There is a firidge on
the gully at the inti rsec*iaft of the Barnes
Vilie rood and the street fuuning from the
j iil, liant, which needs looking alter. A
birge part of one of the planks is missing,
leaving a hole large enough tor a hofse or
mule to put his to t into. It should be
repaired in season to prevent injury to stock.
NewsP\Ptrf AGknt.—Dr. lmnt|ii<'st is
acting as agent b>r the “Literary Compan

in Augusta, Me. Without special exertion

Fahming Operations —Cotton planting
is ne iriy coiiipleted in this county, so far
as wo are able to learn. A little more
than an average crop will be put into the
ground. Guano has been used extensively.
Considerable corn is up, and far enough
aiong to bo w >rk*d N the
lateness of the season he indications are,
that a good genet*.>l crop Will be harvested
this year.
Lcboe Turtle. — Mr. R >bt. Bradley,
brought into town ou Thur-day niofitifig, a
Loggerhead turtle weighing 50 potinds,
and measuring 3 feet and 8 inches from
end to end, and 18 inches across the shell,
which he had catight the night before it)
Potato meek, with a set hook. He says thni
there a:e others in the creek that he is go
ing to have a trial at. Mr Jennings, our
popular landlord, purchased the fellow and
served him up to hfs guest.
Dull Time-u—Thomaston is about as
dull just now as a place can well be. All
the fanners are engaged dt home and do
not come in to trade. We do not believe
thafany business man has even been reques*
ted to make change for ft teo-ceht bill for
days past. One well-known merchant sold
clay pipe and a stick of candy early in
week. He thinks business is brighten
ing up and will employ an extra salesman
or two.
Railroad Meeting —Toe meeting called
on Saturday last, t» t ike steps toward the
construction of the proposed line of railway
between Hiwkansville and Memphis was
quite well attended by the cit *cns of tbie
county. Speeches were made by Dr. Ken
dall. Mr. St >ut, Judge Weaver, and valua
ble suggestions were offered by several
other gentlemen who hate taken an active

will be found a m ore extended notice of the
gathering and an abstract of the address
delivered at the some place iu the evening
by Col. Griffin, of Fort Valley.
Tall Clover.— Mr. Joel Bankston he*

The foregoing analysis of the Eureka
Guano, presented for inspection by Messrs.
Fi W. Sims & Cos., warrants us in pro
nouncing it an excellent and reliable Fer
tilizer for general crops. Its proportion
of hHtritious elements is well balanceil.
The ii’llount of Soluble Phosphoric Acid
which it Supplies, affords a guarantee of
good fruitage tor the first year, while the
amount found as insoluble, will prepare
the hand by slow chemical re-action going
on in the soil for a larger yield for the en
suing year.
The Ammonia is in ample quantity to
stimulate the plant and preserve its vigor,
promote its eurly growth and maturity,
and preserve its greenness, while the
Phosphates perform their w'ork of furnish
ing a correspondent fruitage.
