The opinion of the court was delivered by
Judge Christian, all the Judges concurring.
As American Book Abroad. —Webster’s
Dictionary is now considered throughout
the continentof Europe, not only the author
ity par excellence in English lexicography,
but as the characteristic American book.
It is better known and more widely circu

at the Imperial Library in Paris, the Libra

and other London Clubs, and numerous
other places. I have heard of it from Tur

everywhere deservedly applaud for the ele

impression, the beauty of the engravings,
and the vost amount of information condens

Strange Forgetfujness. —The following
story of sorrow and absence of, mind is told
as a fact by the Portland Advertiser: “A
short time ago a little babe belonging in
this city died, and. as is sometimes the case,
was laid away in a bureau drawor till the
funeral, The day of the funeral came, and
the bereaved mother was convulsed with
grief over the little casket, and sobbing,
laid it away in the cold ground. On her
return home she thought she would go to
the drawer and gaze once more at the place
which would henceforth be consecrated to
it, when what should meet her eyes, when
the drawer was opened, but the lifeless
corpse of the child, that had been entirely
forgotten in prenaring for the funeral.”

IHF. INDIANS ON THE WAR-PATH.
Excitement in Texas—A Big Indian War
at Hand.
St. Louis, Mo., June 18. —Judge Ilub
bell, general agent of the Atlantic and Pa
cific Railroad, has just returned from a busi
ness tour in Texas. He brings the infor
mation that before leaving Sherman, Texas#
an army officer arrived there from Fort
Richmond, Jack County, and reported that
a body of Indians variously estimated at
from three to ten thousand had made an in
cursion into Texas, and were overrunning
Young, Jack, Denton, and Parker counties,
and that the settlers were filled with con
sternation and alarm. The Indians said
they were going to Huntsville to liberate
Santanta and Big Tree, who are confined in
the State Prison there. It was reported that
all the Indians on Fort Sill reservation had
left and gone on the war* path. Already
two fights had occurred near Weatherford,
in which four whites were wounded and
two Indians killed. Two Indians were cap
tured and lodged in the Weatherford jail.—
The commanding officer of Fort Richardson
is said to have gone to Austin to consult
with General Augur regarding the invasion,
and the latter is reported to havetelegraph
*ed for two more regiments of cavalry to re
port immediately at the points threatened
by the raiders. Judge Ilubbell says there
is no doubt in the minds of weil-informed
Texans that a big Indian war is at hand.—
Many settlers are leaving their homes. It
is believed that the Klowas were the leaders
of the raid, assisted by the Apaches and
others. There was no quorum at the Oek 4 *
mulgee Council up to last Tuesday, and
none of the wild tribes from Fort Sill had
yew come to participate in the deliberations.
