Announcement.—We call the attention
of the voters of Upson countv, to the an
nouncement of Benjamin 11. Lowe, asa can
didate for the office of Sheriff, subject to the
nomination of the Democratic party. Mr.
Lowe has long been known to the people
of this county, an,an upright and clever citi
zen, and the faithful and satisfactory man
ner in which he has discharged hiR official
duties as Bailiff, commends him to the vo*erp
of Upson county for the high office of
Sheriff, which he is in every particular
capable of filling. Let a hearty support be
given him. M any Voters.
Political Meeting. —ln accordance with
the call for a meeting of the citizens of Up
son, to appoint Delegates to the Atlanta
Convention, on the 24th instant, to nomi
nate an electoral Ticket, and a candidate
for Governor, a number of the citizens, of
the county met in the Court-house last
Saturday and organized.
On motion of Mr. J. C. Williams, Mr. W.
S. Oliphant, was elected Chairman of the
meeting and J. C. McMichael, was elected
as Secretary.
On motion of J C. McMichael the follow
ing were adopted as the resolutions of the
meeting.
Whereas, We consider the honest and
economical administration of the State Gov
ernment of much importance to the people,
as well as an honest administration of the
General Government.
Resolved, That the delegates from this
county be instructed to vote for a man who
will conduct an honest and economical ad
ministration.
Resolved . That in Governor Smith we
have found such a man, and that we reiter
ate our former endorsement of him and
recommend that our delegates he instructed
to vote for him in the nomination of the 24th
inst.
Resolved , That these resolutions he pubs
lished in the Thomaston Herat/d, Atlanta
Constitution and the Macon Telegraph and
M eseenger.
Oo motion of Mr. Louis Hamburger, to
appoint a Committee of eight men, to sug
gest suitable names a® delegates, the Chair
appointed, B G McKenney. Louis Ham
bnrger, W. T. Respess. James Pearce, Jesse
B. Howell, J. W. Snelßon, G. J. Lewis and
Joel Mathews.
While the Committee was in counsel,
several gentlemen were called upon to ad
dress the meeting.
Ca P t. J. A. Cotton, responded in a brief
and appropriate address, asserting, very
justly, that the great interest of Georgia,
is the honest administration of the State
Government. He alluded to the corruption,
chicanery and liberal use of money in the
National Administration. Said by an hon
est administration of the State Government,
the people could Uetter bear up the weight
of the National maladministration and op
pression, should it be continued upon the
people.
Gen- 1*1)08. lifeaTf, in regard to the Nation
al ticket, thought the county in accordance
with she adoption of a former resolution,
bound to support Greeley and Brown. —
Greeley stood in anew position before the
people—was honest and that unity should
characterise the^ action of the people.
Judge T. S. Sharnian, thought the meet
ing had nothing to do hut endorse tne ac
tion of the Baltimore Convention.
W. T. Weaver, endorsed what the
former speakers had said and thought it
the duty of the party to support Greeley and
Brown. ~ t>
Dr. T. R Kendall spoke cf the general
corruption and ill administration of the
government, and desired charge for the
better.
The Committee then returned*ans sub
mitted as delegates, Judge T. A. D. Weaver,
J R. Black, F. J. Winning, J. C. Zirn, J.
C. Williams. I. E Clary J. I. Hall, John
F. Williams, with instructions to vote for
James M. Smith, as the nominee for Gov
ernor.
The above names were eksetod as dele
gates with the power to.appaint alternates
should they not go.
On motion of den. Thomas Beall, tbe
Chairman appointed a Democratic Execu
tive Committee for Upson county to be
constituted of the following names;
J. A. Cotten, Town District; R. F. Patil
lo, Flint District; J. W. Brown, Hooten
v;]]p District : Simeon King, Black Aokle

Mr. I\ C. Sawyer, ifacon, O a.: Dear Sir—l Lave witnessed the performance of one of your Improved Gins
And can safely pronounce It excellent and fully adapted to U*e>wrants of our farmers The Improvements you
have given it over other Gins gives you superior claims to its cctisnjeration. Its swinging front with adjustable
box, both top and bottom, adds greatly to its praise and worth, as that it is utterly impossible to the
roll, and that the shape of the ribs being in perfect shape with the roll, necessarily gives increased length to tho
staple, and indeed that which 1 witnessed was fully equal to its natural length, and which alone makes it pre-em
inently worthy of the consideration of all practical farmers. Wishing you success in your [audible Southern
undertaking, ,! am. very respect fully, W. A. COLLINS.
