recovered sufficiently to realize the mistake
Le had made, in tearing up the cdiignon.
and thinking that Dilsy had gune for her

he had rushed frantically for an open win

his hurry. Lad knocked the stick out just in
time to allow the falling sash to catch his
retreating coat tail, and amputate the gar

eleven and twelve o’clock, on a chilly night
in the month of March, and an auspicious
thing for William that night was at hand to
cover his forlorn condition; for none but
those who liave been crossed in love can
imagine his gl otuy’thoughts of the past, as
well as dismal foreboding of the future, as
he Lurried along in the pale, weird moon

Drox x Like Muttox.—A good story is
told of the recent excellent performance of
Handel's Mrs-iah at the Broadway Baptist
chur h. A farmer texok his wife to hear the
grand r.r ic. so splendidly rendered on that
occasion, an 1. after listening with apparent
c::j vment. the pair became suddenly inter
ested in one of the grand choruses: **We
all. like sheep, have gone astray.” First s
sharp soprano voice exclaimed:
‘ We all. like sheep—”
Next, a deep base voice uttered, in the
most erncst tones:
‘ We all, like sheep—”
Then all ti*? singers at once asserted:
‘ We all, like sheep—”
“Darned if 1 do!" exclaimed old rusticus
to his partner. "I like beef and bacon, but
I can't bear sheep meat!”
There was an audible titter in that imtne
diate vicinity, but the splendid music at
tracted attention from the pair, and they
quietly slipped out. —Courier Journal.

new plan of dealing is being intnxUiced into

payments for «\x*eries. and also to make
new customers, and it is said to be a decided
success. It is >tyled the "Ixmus system for

in allowing two amt one-half per cent, pay

'bowing the amount of the purchase.—
These are preserved by the buyer, and
when the time of redemption arrives—twice
a year — the checks show the amount on
which the holder is entitled to two and one
half txr cent, and is paid in goods. The
Arm originating this innovation made their
first semi annual redemption on the 14th of

who had hitherto been taking credit for one

has induced others to adopt the sane plan.
