Will the Beecher nuisance never 1 i
end? Or will preparation* be made to \
celebrate a centeunial in honor of its I
advent into society ? The indications
id- present are that it may close some
time during the summer, but no one
can tell. New witnesses are found
every day, who are questioned, crossed,
re crossed and questioned again and
we have every’ reason to fear that this
detestable trial w ill continue to inun

Surely we have had far too much

vines bore during the winter and Mr.
Collins has noticed that these vines are
fullest now. This little farm is a per
fect boanza. Beginning even now,
and gathering 400 quarts per day for
two months, at the low price of ten
cents per quart, and Mr Collins will
make a handsome profit. Strawber
reies in the first of the season bring 50
cents very rapidly and seldom fall be
low twenty-five. This will beat cot
ton. The farm of Mr. Collins is a
very poor rocky hillside, ten acres ot
which would not make a bale of cotton.

Eihi: IX Marie I V.— Marietta had
a lii'oi < - laFs>sciujutiou Sunday morning,
about three o’clock. The residence of
Mr. Joint A. G. Anderson was totally
consumed by lire. It seems that Mr.
Anderson had been- burning out his
cliimucy, and some of the sparks mmd
have settle i in the roof.
\\ hen the lire was discovered it had
made such progress that Mr. Anderson
and his family, consisting of his wife,
mother-iu-iuw and sister-in-law, barely
had time to escape in their night
clothes. All of the furniture, smoke
house and outbuildings were d< sToy
ed . In a trunk which was burnt up
Mr. Anderson had *3,500 in currency,
and £ 100 in gold mid silver. The
greenbacks are gone, but the specie
was found 111 a melted state. Through
the exertions of the citizens, the ad
joining houses were saved.
Mr. Anderson’s loss in furniture
and money will fully reach $5,000.
The house was in the hands of A. M.
Simpson, agent, and was insured for
$1,500. — Constitution.
Last night a negro man, name un

Eihe.—Between 3 and 1 o'clock on
yesterday morning the alarm of lin
was rung. It was discovered that Mr.
Purieli s residence on Harris street
was 011 fire, having caught from a
stove left alight. The fire soon spread
and consumed the residence of Mr.
ilenn Holcomb. Most of the furni
ture and personal effects of both the
sufferers was lost, Mr. Holcomb sa
ving a little furniture. Mr. Holcomb
was insured for $1,910, and Mr. Pui
tcll, for $1,500; all in the Georgia
Home. A stiff wind was blowing and
the cinders flew around recklessly.
At one time the house of the Rev. Mr.
Martin, and of Mr. Robertson kin
dled, but were both put out. The
fire being beyond the reach of the cis-
terns the engines could not reach it;
and it went out of itself. The fire
men were promptly on hand, and to
Mr. Dykernan especially, who was the
first to reach the spot, the neighbors
arc much indebted.— A Mania Her

Of the 4-44- convicts in. the State
Penitentiary of Mississippi, 398 are
negroes, and only 46 whites. As the
Government of Mississippi is thor
oughly Radical in all its branches and

that the laws against crime are execu

equally marked and significant.— Col.
