103 in North Georgia, 00 in Middle Georgia,

gia, 122; Southeast Georgia, 100. The yield
per acre in bushels was: In North Georgia,
10; Middle Georgia, 11; South west Georgia,

Dear Herald: —I have been wanting to
drop you a line for sometime, but as there
was nothirg of interest in this section 1
waited several weeks to do so. Our crops
are extraordinarily good where they havp
been well cultivated. Fruit crop is abun
dant and much of it is being dried. This
crop will be very profitable this year if we
have fan weather so that we can dry it.
A few days ago our citizens decided to
have a big barbecue. Thursday the 19th
was the day agreed upon and the services of
Mr. Britt of llusselville. were procured at
<nee to barbecue the meats. At that busi
ness he is certainly letter A—No. 1. On
r i liursday the day appointed, the sky was
overcast with dark clouds and the prospect
was quite fair for a “rainy day.” At an
early hour it began raining and continued to
“pour down” until ten o’clock. Then the
weather faired up and soon a number of our
farmers, with their wives and pretty daught
ers came pouring in from ever direction un
til our little band numbered about a hundred
and twenty-five. Soon dinner was announc
ed and I tell you our good ladies fully sus
tained their former reputation as good cooks.
The barbecue was splendid ! And we had
a bountiful supply of it. After dinner sam
ples from our orchards were displayed and
then disposed of in a style that was very
INTERESTING.
By this time It was begining to rain and
Me had to seek shelter elsewhere than under
the large trees. So some went to the store
and others to the residence of Mr. Marshall
Soon the rain ceased and the young peo
dccided to “trip the fantastic toe” during
the remaindei of the day. Twas not not
long before all were in a vacant store room
near by, listening to and dancing by the
sweet music of several violins.
Quite a number of gay and graceful young
ladies were on the floor during the renmind
d of the evening and all went “merry as a
mariiage bell.”
The Misses 11., of Thomasloa, and Mis3
M-, of Upson, were in attendance. So you
need not be at all surprised to sec some of
oui Monroe Cos., boys over your way soon.
Your Friend,
Esto.
Ime Galaxy far August devotes eleven
pages to the new pictures now on view at
best galleries in .London; the article is in by
Hemy James, jr , who is always in his ele
Mient when he writes about pictures. Next
we are taken by Mr. Fisher to a soiree at the
house ot \ ictor Hugo in Paris, and led
through the luxurious drawing-rooms, where
some ot the cleverest authors, artists, and
statesmen ol France are assembled, and,
still better, a sprinkling of charming French
women, including several members of the
best's family, to whom we are presented.—
"Wi are led next to 131 rat ford -o n- Avon, in
company with Mr. Richard Grant. White,
who proves to be thoroughly out of humor
with everything we meet: the inn, the
streets, the church, the river, and all the
relics of Shakespeare, including his tomb
stone, come under the displeasure of our dis
appointed traveller, whose critical sense is
outraged at every turn. Dr. Dwight ot
Constantinople contributes a striking pic
ture ot Turkish character by selecting three
representative Turks to illustrate the three
leading elements of Turkish society, and
throwing the light of Ins veuy uncommon
descriptive power upon them. The charac
ters lie chooses are the corrupt official, the
young man of fashion, and the honest Turk,
each of whom is sketched with the pen ot
an artist. Mi. Henry W. Frost writes upon
curious tropes and metaphors, and figures
ot speech w hich have come under his obser
vant et c; and Mr. George E. Pond discuss

tics, and positively succeeds in writing a

This Sarsaparilla is a combination of
vegetable alteratives Stillingia, Man
drake, Yellow Dock —with the lodides
of Potassium and Iron, and is the most
efficacious medicine yet known for
the diseases it is intended to cure.
Its ingredients are so skilfully com
bined, that the full alterative effect of
each is assured, and while it is so mild
as to be harmless even to children, it is
still so effectual as to purge out from the
system those impurities and corruptions
which develop into loathsome disease.
The reputation it enjoys is derived
from its cures, and the confidence which
prominent physicians all over the coun

of its usefulness.
Certificates attesting its virtues have
accumulated, and are constantly being
received, and as many of these cases are
publiely known, they furnish convincing
evidence of the superiority of this Sar
saparilla over every other alterative
medicine. So generally is its superi

We need do no mote than to assure the
public that the best qualities it has ever
possessed are strictly maintained.
