To Keep Fresh Meat.—As soon as the animal heat is out of the meat slice it up ready for cooking, prepare a large jar by scalding well with hot water and salt. Mix salt and pulverized saltpeter in proportion of one tablespoonful of salterpetei to oue teacupful ot sale. Cover the bottom of the jar w r ith a sprinkle of salt and pepper. Put down a layer ot meat, sprinkle wijli salt and pepper the same as if just going to the table, and continue in this maimer until the jar is full Fold a cloth or towel and wet it in strong salt and water iu which in a little of the saltpeter is dissolved. Press the cloth closely over the meat and set in a cool place, lie sure and press the cloth on tightly as each layer is removed, and your meat will keep for months. It is a good plan to let tho meat lie over night after it is sliced be fore packing. Then drain off all the blood that oozes from it. It will be necessary to change the cloth occasionally, or take it off and wash it—first in cold water then scald iu salt and water as at first,. Iu this way, larmers can have fresh meat all the year round. A Sure Cure for Boils.—Dr. Simon, a physician of Loraine states that, ns soon as the the characteristic culminating point ot a Imul makes its appearance, he puts iu a sauc er a thimbleful of clmmphorated alcohol, aud dipping the ends of his middle fingers into the liquid, rubs the inflamed surface, especially the mikdle portion, repeating the opertion eight or ten times, continuing the rubbing at each time for about half a min ute, He then allows the surface to dry* placing a slight coating of camphorated ol ive oil over the affected surface. lie states that one such application in almost all such cases causes boils to dry up and disappear. The application should be made at morning, noon and in the evening. He aveis that the same treatment will cure whitlows and sll injuries ol tips of fingers. As soon as pain and redness appear, the finger should be soaked for ten minutes in camphorated sweet oil. This relief is said to be immedi ate, and three applications are generally enough to effect a cure.
