Washington, Dec. 22.—The reports of correspondents of the Department, of Agri culture, received and now in in course ol preparation tor immediate publication, show the enormous aggregate yeild of llGd.OOi), <<M bushels ol wheat for 1877, which is 50’ 000,000 bushels more than ever before pro ductal. Tile same authority shows that the corn product was l,5o0.0C(.0 K) bushels, with correspondingly iaige yeilds of oats and potatoes. The ro|>ort shows tfiat there never was greater abundance in the land. Out of the wheat product it is estimated, deducting for home consumption in food and seed; that upwards of 110.000,000 1-ushels of wheat can be spared for export The largest export yet ma le in one yeai was 91,000.000 bushels, with an average of 63,000,0C0 bushels. The Department is al so in receipt of information from wheat-pro. diu-ing’sections of Europe, from which it is ascertained that the wheat crop in South western Europe, which produces the lar gest of the surplus, is good; i.i Southern Russia, amounting to 25 jici cent above the average. The crop in Northwestern and Northeastern Europe is poor lu our farm reading we have come across the instance ol a South Carolina farmer a Mr J. W. Parke, mukeing two hundred bushelsot corn on a single acre of land. The case is re - orted in the proceedings of the annual convention of the South Carolina Agricultural Society for 18G9. jfhc ground was a quagmire grown over with rushes, full of snakes and malaria tra versed by a sluggish stream. The ground was drained by a canal and underdrains.—- During the summer the land was cleared, leveled and broken op with a two-hors plow In November a heavy coat ot cow-house manure wn3 spread and plowed under, and the same repeated in January and March, the last time with subsoiling. In April the weeds were limed aud turcd under.—ln May another coat of manure was plowed under the land, harrowed level and laid off in two and a hall feet rows. In ihesc furrows were applied 203 pounds, to the acre of Peruvian Gvano, salt and land plaster. The seed corn was soaked in nitre and rolled in plaster, and dropped ten inch es apart in the row, covered with rakes and the land rolled. The corn came up in five days, and as soon as it was large enough, a long, narrow plowed was run around it, followed by the hoe, the crop being kept clean by shallow, level culture until it be gan to shoot and tassel. The field was then irrigated by a gentle flow of wafer through every alternate row. Tiie yield was 200 3-8 bushels on an acre. An acre planted in three feet rows brought 547 bushels per acre. A correspondent writes to the Indiana Farmer. I have noticed an article going the rounds of papers advocating cement for pig pens, which I concur in. Hut why stop with the pig-penV I have a pigspea twerm ty-s ; x by thirty-four feet, with a pavedand cemented floor; I also have a barn foity by ixty-four feet, and cemented. Tiie stables have been in use lor five years, and are in as good condition now as when new’. Now, brother tanners, I will give my plan for makeuig tins kind of floor. In the first place, remove ths surface dirt until you gel a good solid bed; then sprad coarse sand or gravel over the surface, from two to tour inches deep according t<> the size if the ston es you pave with t'oi.-mence and lay the outer lines, mak:.. .mice for the fall you may w ant m y u nir. After getting the outer lines, keep a straight edge by you pound ever slone into your bed until its sefs solid and the surface is even or in line I gave my tl.ior from three to four inches fall to twelve feet, from the manger back. Aticr the stone arc all set as above stated, lake ot good Mine water one part, and of elf r coarse sand tour parts; mixed thor oughly while dry, and then w.et until it will run like thin porridge; then pour it in and fill all the crevice until nearly to the top of stones. After that is set, take of cement one part and land three parts; make u mor ;ir so thin that it can be easily spied. Lay ft on even and smooth until it is about one |ucli thick. After the the plas iering is down shut out th light and wind, and let the ■ !x/:nn be iMVitHul; if the weather is w-'.nn and dry spr-’.tf-ling every two or three days, or, soil hotter. a hmt * >:U of eitmpcm c.i s'vnw would prve ;t getting dry toe to*>n.
