TrtE Late Fire.—In our account
ot the fire last Saturday morning, we
unintentionally did injustice to one of
our most efficient fire companies, the
Rescues, by placing them last, when
it seems they were the first on the
ground. We take pleasure in makjpg
the correction. Our account of the
fire was necessarily hastily gotten up,
as wc were just ready to go to press,
when it broke out. The account was
written, put iu type and ready for the
press in Just thirty-three minutes
fact that certainly speaks well for our
compositors, as they had been at their
cases very nearly twenty-four hours
without rest, including the entire

Concert.—The Neptunes aud Res
cues propose giving a Concert at the
City Hall on next Tuesday evening
week, the proceeds of which is to be
applied for the purpose of aiding the
Vigilante iu getting an outfit. This is
a generous as well as a voluntary ac
tion on the part of the two Com
panies toward the Vigilante, and wo
doubt not, that they and the public
also will show their appreciation of it by
giving the boys a rousing audience on
the occasion. Wc understand that alt
the musical talent of the place will be
employed, the brass and string bands
having kindly and generously volun
teered tbeir services. Let every one
buy a ticket. We will give piogrammc,
&c., in our next issue.
A Chance to become an Artist.
As will be seen in our' advertising
columns, a rare opportunity is offered
our young ladies, and gentlemen too,
of acquiring in a very few lessons and
at a yery.moderate cost, the art of
painting. Mrs. Richmond comes
among ns heralded by (he most fiat-
raring notices of the press, wherever
sho has been, and we doubt not de
serves all^lhe high encomiums that
have been paid -her. The terms are
moderate and the advantages to be
acquired ftre worthy the dibit of any;
and wc trust that our people will show
by forming a large class, that they
appreciate art and merit. We have
seen some of her specimens at Mr. Geo.*
M. Da 111 os, where Mrs. B. may be
found, aud although no art critic or
connisktr, yet we have no doubt that
these specimens will cora]>arc favor
ably with any similar ones here or
elsewhere.
A New Citizen.—Wc are always
glad to welcome new and worthy citi
zens into our midst, aud wc are glad
to announce tliat Dr. John 1). An
drews. whom wc have kaown intimate
ly tor sonic years, has cast his lot in
Thom&svillc. Wc know him to bo a
high-minded, honorable gentleman,
