Keep Out of Debt.
7/alf the perplexity, annoyance i
trouble that men have in this world
in consequence of gelling into e’ebt. It
seems natural for some people to buy,
and incur obligations without measure,
so long as they can avoid paying
reaily cash. Give one of this sort a
chance to buy on credit, and the ques
tions ot payments are matters that lie
cares but little abcut. Blit what a
crop of troubles springs up from the
seed of debt, i/ow many gray hairs
it brings, and low often it shortens
life—sometimes leading men to c
mil suicide or murder. And yet how
easy it is to keep clear of this terrible
monster. Every voung man should
form a fixed and unalterable determi
nation, before commencing his active
business career, not to incur one pen
ny of indebtedness, under any circum
stances. Never buy anything unless
you have the money to pay for it at
once. Bay no attention to the “splen
did opportunities,” “rare chances,”
“bargains,” and the like. Such are
only traps set to catch victims. If
you see anything that you would like
to accept, look first at your money pile,
and make the answer depend upon
that. Always pay as you go. If you
arc short ot money, gua^c your de
mands accordingly.

An amusing case of assault and bat

were taking a quiet walk dressed in
gay colors, and while in the locality
named were astonished by the head
ami horns of a billy goat coming in
contact with the most prominent por

of ouc of th«i prumcnaders, making
sad havoc of the fixings. The ladies
screamed at the top of their voice as
the irate duadruped persisted in cha
sing and butting them right and left.
A crowd soon assembled and aiuons,
them Officer John N. Berry, who.
without the authority of a w.wrraut,
took the dilemma by both horns, aud
thus relieved the frightened ladies,
who scampered off homo—to repair
damages. The assailant was persua

where lie butted the boards off his stall
